📌 Java Question – Why Are Strings Immutable? We use String every day in Java. But have you ever thought: - Why are Strings immutable in Java? You cannot change them once created. String s = "Hello"; s.concat(" World"); System.out.println(s); 👉 Output: Hello Even after calling concat, the original string didn’t change. 🤯 Why Did Java Design It This Way? There are 3 strong reasons behind this decision. 🔐 1️⃣ Security Strings are used in: - Database connections - File paths - Network URLs If Strings were mutable, these values could be changed at runtime, creating security risks. ⚡ 2️⃣ String Pool (Memory Optimization) Java stores Strings in a String Pool. String a = "Java"; String b = "Java"; Both a and b point to the same object. This is only possible because Strings are immutable. 👉 Saves memory 👉 Improves performance 🧵 3️⃣ Thread Safety Immutable objects are inherently thread-safe. No synchronization needed. Think var in Java is just about saving keystrokes? Think again. When Java introduced var, it wasn’t just syntactic sugar — it was a shift toward cleaner, more readable code. So what is var? var allows the compiler to automatically infer the type of a local variable based on the assigned value. Instead of writing: String message = "Hello, Java!"; You can write: var message = "Hello, Java!"; The type is still strongly typed — it’s just inferred by the compiler. Why developers love var: Cleaner Code – Reduces redundancy and boilerplate Better Readability – Focus on what the variable represents, not its type Modern Java Practice – Aligns with newer coding standards But here’s the catch: Cannot be used without initialization Only for local variables (not fields, method params, etc.) Overuse can reduce readability if the type isn’t obvious Not “dynamic typing” — Java is still statically typed Pro Insight: Use var when the type is obvious from the right-hand side — avoid it when it makes the code ambiguous. Day 38 - 🚀 Understanding toString() in Java In Java, the toString() method is used to return a string representation of an object. It belongs to the Object class, which means every Java class inherits it by default. 📌 Default Behavior If you don't override toString(), Java prints a combination of class name + hashcode. class Person { String name; int age; } Person p = new Person(); System.out.println(p); Output: Person@1a2b3c This output is usually not very useful for users or developers. 📌 Overriding toString() To display meaningful object information, we override the toString() method. class Person { String name; int age; @Override public String toString() { return "Person[name=" + name + ", age=" + age + "]"; } } Output: Person[name=John, age=25] 📌 Why toString() is Important ✔ Provides a human-readable representation of objects ✔ Useful for debugging and logging ✔ Makes object data easier to print and understand 💡 Pro Tip Always use the @Override annotation when implementing toString() to ensure the method is correctly overridden. ✅ Conclusion The toString() method helps convert an object into a clear and readable string format, making debugging and displaying data much easier in Java applications. #Java #OOP #JavaProgramming #ToString #ProgrammingConcepts #SoftwareDevelopment

Java finally made a 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 keyword mean 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 and everyone is talking about it... Previously, the final keyword in Java indicated that a variable's value cannot be changed once initialized. However, through the use of the deep reflection 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 and 𝘀𝗲𝘁 methods of the 𝗷𝗮𝘃𝗮.𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴.𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁.𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 class, it was possible to override this behavior. Consider the following example: ``` // A normal class with a final field class C { final int x; C() { x = 100; } } // 1. Perform a deep reflection over the final field in C java.lang.reflect.Field f = C.class.getDeclaredField("x"); f.setAccessible(true); // Make C's final field mutable // 2. Create an instance of C C obj = new C(); System.out.println(obj.x); // Prints 100 // 3. Mutate the final field in the object f.set(obj, 200); System.out.println(obj.x); // Prints 200 f.set(obj, 300); System.out.println(obj.x); // Prints 300 ``` However, with the upcoming Java 26 release, the final keyword will truly mean final. Java Code >> Compile (javac) >> Bytecode (portable code) >> Interpret (platform specific) >> Machine Code >> Execute. Normal: 1. Java Compiler (javac) compiles Java code to Bytecode (which is platform-independent). 2. Java Interpreter (java) interprets this bytecode (line-by-line) & convert it to Machine language. 3. Execute. Exception: JIT (Just In Time) Compiler 1. JVM maintains the count for no of times a function is executed. 2. If it exceeds the limit then JIT directly compiles the Java code into Machine language. No Interpretation. In General, • Compile: Source code >> Optimized Object Code (can be machine code or other optimized code) • Interpret: Source Code >> Machine Code (to be executed)

🔍 HashMap Internal Working in Java (Simple Explanation) HashMap is one of the most commonly used data structures in Java for storing key-value pairs. Understanding how it works internally helps in writing better and more efficient code. Let’s break it down step by step. 💡 What is HashMap? HashMap stores data in key-value pairs and provides O(1) average time complexity for insertion and retrieval. ⚙️ How HashMap Works Internally When we insert data: map.put("user", 101); Internally, the following steps happen: 1️⃣ Hash Generation Java generates a hash for the key using the hash function. 2️⃣ Bucket Index Calculation Index is calculated using: index = hash & (n - 1) where n = number of buckets 3️⃣ Store in Bucket The value is stored in a bucket as a node: (key, value, hash) 4️⃣ Collision Handling If multiple keys map to the same bucket: 1. Stored using Linked List 2. But the real value is not just knowing that Strings are immutable — it's understanding why Java was designed this way. Let’s break it down in a simple way. 👇 📌 First, what does immutable mean? In Java, once a String object is created, its value cannot be changed. For example: String s = "Hello"; s.concat(" World"); You might expect the value to become "Hello World", but it doesn't change the original String. Instead, Java creates a new String object. 🔐 1. Security Strings are used in many sensitive areas like: • File paths • Database connections • Class loading • Network URLs Example: Class.forName("com.company.PaymentService"); If Strings were mutable, someone could modify the class name after validation and load a malicious class. Immutability helps keep these operations secure and predictable. 🧠 2. String Pool (Memory Optimization) Java maintains a special memory area called the String Constant Pool. When we write: String a = "hello"; String b = "hello"; Both variables point to the same object in memory. Because Strings cannot change, Java can safely reuse objects, saving a lot of memory in large applications. ⚡ 3. Thread Safety Immutable objects are naturally thread-safe. 💡 Choosing GC in Java: What You Control vs What You Don’t While diving into JVM internals, I found a key concept about Garbage Collection (GC) that’s often misunderstood 👇 👉 In Java, we can choose which Garbage Collector to use But… 👉 We cannot control when it actually runs 🔍 Which GC is used by default? ✔ Before Java 8 → Parallel GC (Throughput Collector) ✔ Java 9 and above → G1 GC (Garbage First) ✅ ⚙️ How to choose a GC?
