🌐 What is DOM in React.js? Before understanding React deeply, it’s important to understand the DOM (Document Object Model). most React developers have too many useEffects. i did too. until i read this rule and couldn't unsee it: if you're using useEffect to sync state with another state you don't need useEffect. here's what i mean. (the pattern 1 .. i see everywhere) but pattern 2 give same result . no effect. no extra render cycle. useEffect is for syncing React with something outside React. - fetching data from an API - setting up a subscription - manually touching the DOM not for calculating values you could just... calculate. every unnecessary useEffect is a hidden render cycle your users pay for. before you write useEffect ask one question: am i syncing with something outside React, or am i just doing math? if it's math delete the effect. #reactjs #typescript #webdevelopment #buildinpublic #javascript

Why do we need to call 'super(props)' in the constructor of a React component? JavaScript classes aren't magic. They are just syntactic sugar over prototypes. If you are still using (or have used) Class Components in React, you have likely typed 'super(props)' a thousand times. But do you actually know what happens if you forget it? In JavaScript, you cannot use the keyword 'this' in a constructor until you have called the parent constructor. Since your component extends 'React.Component', calling 'super()' is what actually initializes the 'this' object. If you try to access 'this.state' or 'this.props' before that call, JavaScript will throw a ReferenceError and crash your app. But why pass 'props' into it? React sets 'this.props' for you automatically after the constructor runs. However, if you want to access 'this.props' inside the constructor itself, you must pass them to 'super(props)'. If you just call 'super()', 'this.props' will be undefined until the constructor finishes execution. Most of us have moved to Functional Components where this isn't an issue. Props vs State in React Most beginners get confused between Props and State in React. At first, both seem similar because both store data. But the real difference is simple: * Props = Data received from another component * State = Data managed inside the component Example: function Parent() { return <Child name="Durgesh" />; } function Child(props) { return <h1>{props.name}</h1>; } Here, `name` is a prop because it comes from the Parent component. Now look at State: const [count, setCount] = useState(0); Here, `count` is managed inside the same component. Quick Difference 👇 • Props are read-only • State can be updated • Props come from parent to child • State belongs to the component itself Think like this: Props = Things you receive State = Things you control Once you understand this difference, React becomes much easier. Have you ever added an extra 'div' to your component just to make the React compiler stop complaining? React requires every component to return a single root element. This requirement often leads to 'div soup' which clutters your DOM and makes debugging a nightmare. This isn't just about messy code. It can actually break CSS layouts like Flexbox or Grid that rely on direct parent-child relationships. This is why we have React Fragments. They allow you to group multiple children without adding a physical node to the browser's DOM. Whether you use the 'React.Fragment' tag or the shorthand '<>' syntax, React treats the group as one unit during reconciliation but keeps the final HTML output clean and efficient. Beyond keeping your HTML lean, Fragments help with performance by reducing the total number of DOM nodes the browser has to manage. They also ensure your code stays semantically correct. For example, using a 'div' inside a table or a description list can break accessibility and the native layout of the browser. React Hook Form made my forms faster, cleaner, and easier to manage. Before using it, I was handling form state with useState, writing multiple handlers, and dealing with unnecessary re-renders. It worked, but it was messy and hard to scale. React Hook Form changed that. It uses uncontrolled components, which means fewer re-renders and better performance. You don’t need to store every input in state. Instead, you register inputs and let the library handle the rest. Key benefits: 1. Minimal re-renders 2. Simple validation 3. Cleaner code 4. A lot of people constantly ask me what React Hooks actually are, and the best way to think about Hooks and JavaScript concepts in general is to look at what problem they were trying to fix. For example, before React Hooks, people would create a Container Component and a Presentational Component. The Container Component would retrieve data, like making a fetch request, and then pass that data down to the Presentational Component, which was usually a pure function that returned some UI, like a div with styling, and accepted that data as props. This pattern helped create a standard for how data was retrieved in React and enforced separation of concerns, but it ended up being too boilerplate heavy for most people. So Hooks were introduced to let us hook into components directly, allowing us to load data as a side effect inside a function while still maintaining separation of concerns without needing extra components. #ReactJs #JavaScript #JavaScriptHooks

🎯 useEffect vs useLayoutEffect: finally made it clear While learning React hooks, I was confused between useEffect and useLayoutEffect. This visual helped me understand the real difference 👇 👉 useLayoutEffect 1. Runs synchronously 2. Executes before the browser paints the UI 3. Useful when you need to measure or update the DOM before it becomes visible 👉 useEffect 1. Runs asynchronously 2. Executes after the UI is painted 3. Best for API calls, timers, subscriptions, etc. 💡 Key takeaway: 1. useLayoutEffect → blocks paint (use carefully) 2. useEffect → doesn’t block UI (preferred in most cases) Also learned how cleanup (destroy/unmount) works to avoid memory leaks especially with intervals and API calls.
