Why I chose Java for a startup (and not JavaScript, Go, or Python) Most people think startups should move fast. And they’re right. But here’s the mistake: They confuse moving fast with building something fragile quickly. When I started building my marketplace, I had a choice: * JavaScript (fast iteration, huge ecosystem) * Python (simple, productive) * Go (lightweight, efficient) Or… Java. I chose Java. Not because it’s trendy. Not because it’s easy. But because I’m not building a demo. I’m building a system that needs to survive: * Complex business rules (pricing, offers, inventory) * High consistency requirements * Growth over time (not just MVP hype) Java gave me something most people underestimate: Control. With Spring Boot + strong domain modeling, I can: * Design real domain boundaries (not just routes & controllers) * Enforce invariants at the code level * Build systems that don’t collapse when complexity increases Yes, it’s slower to start. At the beginning, Java feels heavy. More boilerplate. More structure. More thinking. But here’s the part no one tells you: As the system grows, Java becomes *easier*, not harder. While other stacks start to struggle with: * messy logic spread everywhere * hidden side effects * harder debugging at scale Java systems tend to become: * more predictable * easier to reason about * safer to extend So the real trade-off is this: Pay the complexity upfront… or pay it later with interest. In a startup, you’re not just optimizing for today. You’re optimizing for: * Month 6 (when features explode) * Month 12 (when bugs become expensive) * When real users depend on your system I’m not trying to build the fastest MVP. I’m trying to build something that won’t break when it matters.

One Thing I Changed as a Developer… and It Improved Everything After working in development for 2+ years, I realized: I was writing code… but not really understanding it. Earlier: 1) Focus was only on “getting the task done” 2) Copy-paste solutions from Google 3) No attention to code quality Then I made one small change > I started asking “WHY” behind everything Why this logic? Why this approach? Why this design? And slowly… My debugging improved My confidence increased My code became cleaner Lesson: “Good developers write code. Great developers understand code.” Still learning every day… but now with more clarity.
