This Earth Day, take time to think about tech you don't need anymore, and what usually happens when you're done with it. CNET recently dug into US adults' plans for their old devices and a few points stood out. ♻️ For some of us (29%), old tech is collecting dust at home, which could be recycled or traded-in for cash or credit. ♻️ 22% of US adults throw them in the trash -- which is illegal in some states, pollutes our environment and is a fire hazard. ♻️ Only 39% recycle old devices, but plenty of retailers make it easy to. We just have to know where to start. Take a look at the findings and see where you can drop off those devices to give them new life. https://lnkd.in/em-U2CCa

The best technology does more than innovate; it should be designed to make a real difference in people’s lives as well. That’s one of the things I value most about Samsung Electronics America: while we focus on building products that people genuinely benefit from, the responsibility and care for how we impact the world around us is also a priority. For us, sustainability isn’t an optional initiative. It’s becoming core to how we design, innovate, and scale. From incorporating recycled materials across Galaxy devices, to eliminating single-use plastics in our mobile packaging, we’re thinking about sustainability at every stage of the product lifecycle. We take that initiative a step further by giving traded-in devices an extended life with our Certified Re-Newed Program – offering customers high quality devices, restored by Samsung, at affordable prices. This helps keep e-waste out of local ecosystems and landfills while letting our customers actively contribute to minimizing environmental impacts. Additionally, partners like ERI help us make a bigger impact on doing our part to reduce e-waste, as featured this morning on The TODAY Show. But this thinking doesn’t stop at how products are made, it extends to what our technology actually enables. We’re designing innovations that don’t just reduce environmental impacts, but also actively contribute to the world around us. Ocean Mode, a camera feature on our flagship mobile devices, is specifically designed for underwater photography to help oceanographers constantly monitor and analyze coral reefs to help bring them back to life. That’s the bar we’re working toward. One where sustainability is built into both the foundation and the experience of everything we create. https://lnkd.in/gVcTKxMt #EarthDay #EarthMonth #GalaxyAI #SamsungGalaxy

This Earth Month, we're looking at clear ways to build a more sustainable future. And giving mobile devices a second life is a big part of that. But some might have reservations about choosing a refurbished phone. Rebekah Griffiths, our VP of Product Management and Strategy, recently shared her thoughts with TechRadar on how the mobile industry can reduce e-waste, promote circularity, and build consumer confidence in pre-owned devices. Read more about Rebekah's insights on creating a circular economy you can trust. https://ow.ly/2QUT50YGK33

Back in 2014, during my master’s, I was introduced to natural capitalism, a concept that instantly clicked and has stayed with me ever since. There’s no value in economies and markets without a planet to sustain them. Putting nature at the forefront of every business model is therefore imperative. That’s why I find it very inspiring that Fairphone released the industry’s first ever nature report. An open and transparent report written and designed to inspire the electronics industry to go beyond climate and also focus on nature and biodiversity to take positive action immediately. Have a read and share with colleagues! (full report in comments)

♻️ Earth Day is a good reminder that managing devices is not enough... What also matters is what happens when those devices are no longer in use. At TecsPal, buyback and recycling are part of how we think about hardware. And that is exactly why today also feels like a good moment to recognize the person behind that work. Special credit to Sebastián Samudio! 🙌🏽 For taking care of one of the most important and most sustainable parts of the hardware lifecycle, making sure more devices are reused, resold or recycled instead of ending up as waste. ♻️

In 3 years, opening apps will feel outdated. Apple just made the first real move. — While everyone is building AI apps… Apple is embedding AI into the operating system itself. No switching. No friction. Just outcomes. — With “Apple Intelligence”, your iPhone becomes: → A system that writes, replies, and acts for you → A layer that prioritises what actually matters → An assistant that understands context — not just commands — ⚠️ And here’s the real play: This only fully works on: • iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max • iPhone 16 and newer AI is no longer a feature. It’s the new reason to upgrade hardware. — Zoom out 👇 This isn’t a product update. It’s a shift from: Apps → Actions Tools → Outcomes — At Mobi-Hub , we’re seeing it clearly: The value of a device is no longer the hardware… It’s the intelligence running on top of it. — And this is exactly why the The Circular Tech Awards matter more than ever. As devices get smarter: ♻️ Lifecycles become more complex ♻️ Refurb becomes more valuable ♻️ Innovation in circular tech becomes critical The Circular Tech Awards is where the industry leaders are recognised. 🚀 If you’re building in this space — this is your moment. 👉 Nominate your company to enter the awards: https://lnkd.in/dKbbKkuR Or reach out directly to our judges to get involved. — The winners in this next era? Impact should be the starting point, not an afterthought. “In much of the tech industry, impact is still treated like a shadow. It trails the product after launch, after the supply chain is locked, after the story is already written. By then, most of the decisions that matter have already been made. At Fairphone, we work the other way around.” In her foreword to our latest Impact Report, Fairphone’s Chief Impact Officer, Monique Lempers, writes about what made 2025 a landmark year for Fairphone from a sustainability perspective. I am definitely guilty of hanging on to too many old devices for no good reason but should do better - I'll get some recycled within the next few weeks.
