You cannot be a superstar by yourself, build out multiple leaders. I think to me that is the essence of true leadership. Watching a video, it's by Joel Barker going for a walk on the beach. He is seeing a person who looks like a dancer on the beach taking up 1 starfish and throwing them into the ocean. So he goes and asks the person saying young man, how will you make a difference? There are so many miles and miles of starfish and the young man looks at him, picks up another starfish and throws it and he says it made a difference to that one. Now to me that was a moment of. Happening that can I, person by person, catfish by starfish, throw people into the sea and make them swim and watch them succeed? I think that is the story of starfish women. I was pitchforked into being a CEO of a public company at the age of 33, and I've kind of discovered my own style of dress shop, if you will, as we went along. Without exception, I'd say that look, any of you want to 1 to 1 chat with me, feel free to reach out. Next day I had a mail from Vaidehi saying that I love to meet you. I mean, today she is my mentee. She runs an amazing company in Germany. I'm an investor in that company. Told them that there is a path by which they can be successful beyond what they imagine. Once you spotted that talent in them, that capability, that ability, that. Aspiration. Then I think it's up to you to bring the best out of them. Among the many ills of management, replying to emails at strange hours of the day just to prove a .1 of the things you mentioned is so important. It's about insecurity. This is somebody who wants to succeed, but they won't let them. It was primarily on three things. One is how to be connected with your people. The second is how do you build an action plan to make them leaders? And the feedback. You know, how often do you allow people to give you feedback? I know for certain that you have never micromanaged at least. Haven't seen you. I think I was always like this because I always have too many interests in life and if I spend time in micromanaging, I know I'll do nothing else. They would actually told me that. Look, your style is one of love. You know the confidence with which you use the word love. I think the corporate world itself is afraid of this world. Once you know that this person has the potential to go all the way and even beyond, then you really give them their head. Lot of times you see young people just not trying or saying, let me explore. Let me first discover if I'm interested in something. Let me get myself a proper. Job description. So where did this, you know, strange idea come from and where did this confidence to let them do it come from, given the fact that they're so sure about what they want to do, they're also equally sure about what they don't want to do. So when she finds that, look, there is something that she doesn't want to do for her that's impossible, she will not do it now that she can't do it, but she won't do it. So I think that's a joy of Gen. Z's. And I think working with Genz's, being reverse mentored by them and getting them, getting that kind of, you know, input into them, I think it's amazing dealing with failure in a very positive sense. And what do we learn from this failure rather than saying, oh, my God, how did they fail? And we must punish them for doing that. I think that itself creates an open environment in the organization where you build a whole bunch of, you know, entrepreneurial leaders. So they're willing to take the risk. They know that you have their back and you will support them. Hire people better than you. Hire people who will contradict you and be very complimentary in terms of the styles and the skills they bring in. Unfortunately, even today, in 2025, people still equate inclusion with gender alone and nothing else. People have to evolve and they're not. So what would be your advice? And entrepreneur has to be somebody who has seen the passion of a new idea, knows how to make a product market success happen. And then of course, we'll do all the tough things like, you know, building a team, building capital, building an complete scaling path for the organization. As an individual, look at who you are. If you have a bad relationship with your boss, maybe change your boss, but don't necessarily change and say that, look, I want to do a startup because somebody might throw money at you, but you may not be successful. So what gives you happiness over a period of time is something you will discover. And if you follow that route to what gives you happiness, you will make everybody happy and yourself more more happier.
Inspiring take on leadership—especially the “Starfish” philosophy and learning from Gen Z. True growth comes from lifting others. Waiting for the full episode!
I’ve learned over time that when progress stalls in leadership, it’s rarely external.
More often, it comes down to comfort, ego, or hesitation to make the harder decisions.
Growth as a leader isn’t automatic, it requires intention, awareness, and a willingness to be uncomfortable.
This is exactly the type of conversation we get into inside TILT Leadership Development.
Looking forward to the group we’re building this year.

If you’re not making progress as a leader…
there’s usually a reason.
Comfort.
Ego.
Lack of confidence.
Or avoiding the responsibility that comes with leading others.
Growth in leadership isn’t automatic.
It’s intentional and often uncomfortable.
That’s exactly what we focus on inside TILT.

Growth doesn’t happen by accident — it happens through mindset.
The difference between successful founders and struggling leaders often comes down to how they respond to failure, feedback, and challenges.
A strong leadership mindset means:
• Seeing failure as feedback
• Improving through effort and learning
• Using criticism as a tool for growth
• Turning challenges into opportunities
True leadership is not about working harder every day — it’s about thinking smarter, adapting faster, and growing stronger.
Which mindset do you believe creates long-term success?

As a business scales, the owner's role fundamentally shifts.
It's a significant mindset transition from a hands-on surveyor to a strategic leader. The skills honed for the core operation often don't directly translate to managing growth. You must consciously pivot to leading a team, overseeing incoming work, and focusing on the bigger picture and strategy.
This requires stepping out of the day-to-day noise to dedicate focus and time to strategic thinking. #BusinessScaling#Leadership#Entrepreneurship#MindsetShift#Strategy
In a world where most people try to fit in, real leaders choose to stand out.
This short video is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can make by thinking differently, acting boldly, and leading with purpose. You do not need a crowd to create change. Sometimes all it takes is one decision, one brave step, and one mindset shift to change everything.
Leadership is not about following the majority. It is about having the courage to go first, even when the path is unclear. When you choose to lead with intention, you become the example others naturally follow.
Whether you are building a business, leading a team, or working on your own personal growth, remember this
Your actions matter more than you think
Your choices create momentum
Your leadership starts with you
The power of one is real. And today, that one can be you.
💬 What is one bold decision you are ready to make right now?

I’m not the same leader I was 10 years ago.
And if I’m being honest…
I wouldn’t want to be.
Because leadership, at least the way I’ve experienced it…
Is not something you arrive at.
It’s something you grow into.
And then grow out of.
And then grow into again.
Different seasons
Different responsibilities
Different pressure
All shaping you.
And here’s the part that matters…
If your business is growing…
And you’re not—
At some point, there’s going to be a gap.
Not in strategy.
👉🏿 In you.
That’s why I believe leadership is always evolving.
Because the version of you that got you here…
Is not the version that’s going to take you where you’re trying to go.

Where do you feel like your leadership needs to grow next?

Most founders are busy.
Few are valuable.
Busy founders:
• Attend every meeting
• Solve every problem
• Stay involved in everything
Valuable founders:
• Build systems
• Create leaders
• Focus on direction
Busy feels productive.
But it creates dependency.
Value creates scale.
If your presence is required everywhere…
Your absence will break everything.
And that’s not growth.
That’s a bottleneck.
The goal is not to be busy.
The goal is to be valuable.

Every business I've ever worked with was somewhere on this map.
The problem isn't that companies fail to grow. It's that they apply the wrong playbook to the phase they're actually in.
Phase 1 leaders obsess over process before they have product-market fit. Phase 3 leaders confuse activity for strategy.
Phase 4 leaders protect their model instead of their customers.
The companies that make it through all 4 phases don't move faster. They move with more self-awareness.
Save this. Which phase is your business in right now?
↳ And are you making that phase's classic mistake?
