With Trending Skills insights, you can:

• Inform workforce planning and talent strategy when you update your talent architecture, via Roles, with the fastest growing skill according to the role.
• Guide programming for roles based on where your employees are ahead in skills and where there is opportunity to close skill gaps.

Trending Skills insights is a report that compares your employees’ skills to peer benchmarks and highlights the fastest-growing skills in the market. It helps you determine skill gaps and prioritize learning based on current trends. If these align with the organization's business objectives and learning goals, admins can focus on developing those skills further.

Go to the Insights section in your Career Hub admin dashboard and select Trending Skills. This is a new addition to the Insights report suite.

LinkedIn members provide information on their profiles about their job titles, employers, skills, education, and more. LinkedIn applies the latest machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to increase data quality and make the data searchable. 

Member skills data includes skills from the Skills section of member profiles (populated by members themselves) and skills from the text of member profiles, including the job title, job descriptions and profile summary (extracted by machine learning).

To predict whether a member has a given skill, we use a model including these two data sources and other signals from the members’ profile (e.g., work history). We will only attribute a skill to a member if the model is more than 90% confident that a member has that skill. This measurement does not include data from member endorsement of skills.

The Trending Skills insights report replaces the Skills your employees have added view with:

• Improved visualizations
• Customizable benchmark comparisons
• Fastest-growing skills insights
• Add skills to Roles from the report to help maintain those roles for your talent architecture
  

Yes. You can filter using the following values to tailor the insights. The selected filters will apply to the two charts: “How does your workforce compare to peers?” for percentage of your peers, and “What are the fastest growing skills?”:

• Job title 
• Function 
• Location (will be defaulted to your company’s location)
• Skills 
• Industry
• Company size 
  

Most admins want to focus on specific roles (job titles) and functions when assessing skills because individual functions may have varying skills, skill gaps, and development needs (e.g. marketing skills vs. accounting skills). As an admin, you can also combine several filters to get a more detailed view.

Each section in the Trending Skills insights report includes the following skills data:

Skill insight card 

• This insight is based on the fastest-growing skill for the top role guide viewed in the last three months. If the fastest growing skill is already added to “Roles” in the Talent Architecture tab, then the second highest skill will be suggested, then the third, and so forth.
• The Job Title filter to the left side is updated to match the top-viewed Role Guide to the right; however, if an admin searches for a different job title, it will not update within the insights card but will apply to the data for the other sections.

How does your workforce compare to peers?

• Filter for job title to get the best comparison of percentage of peers compared to percentage of employees.
• Percentage of peers vs. percentage of employees is comparing the percentage of skilled employees in peer organizations to that in your own organization, both calculated as employees with that skill divided by total employees (or by the filtered job title or function). 
• Show all skills allows you to see Skills broken down by:
  • Employees: The number of employees who have listed an active position in your organization on their LinkedIn profile. The following professionals are excluded: part-time workers, freelancers, contractors, student workers, interns, trainees, retirees, and certain retail positions (worker, bagger, greeter)
  • First-year hires: The number of employees who joined your organization in the past 12 months who currently have this skill.

What are the fastest growing skills?

• Filter for job title to see the fastest growing skills for that role in the last year, ranked by one-year growth: The percentage change in the number of professionals with this skill, compared to the number of professionals one year prior.
  • When there isn’t enough one year of growth data then “New” will show up in table for that skill.
• Show all skills allows you to see Skills broken down by:
  • Professionals: The number of professionals who have this skill listed in the skills section of their LinkedIn profile.
  • Job posts: The number of full-time open job posts that match the search criteria and have this skill in the job post.
  • Employees: The number of your employees who have this skill listed on their LinkedIn profile.
• Top employers: Top three companies with the largest number of professionals who have this skill.
