Prescreen candidates with Hiring Assistant

Last updated: 1 month ago

Who can use this feature?

Hiring Assistant is available as an add-on for LinkedIn Recruiter and LinkedIn Recruiter Professional Services Plus (RPS+) customers. To use Hiring Assistant, you must be assigned the Hiring Assistant Permission and set your language preference to English. We’re gradually making this experience available, and you might not have access to it at this time. Learn more about Hiring Assistant here.

When you draft a message using Hiring Assistant, you can choose to enable prescreening to gather information from interested candidates. This can help save time so you can focus on sourcing the right candidates.

You can enable prescreening for any candidates added to a Hiring Assistant-enabled project, whether added by you or Hiring Assistant. You can set up prescreening when you send your initial outreach message or from your Inbox for candidates you’ve already messaged in a Hiring Assistant project.

Hiring Assistant will provide you with a recommended introduction, list of questions, and a closing message. You can review, edit, and approve the list of questions Hiring Assistant will send to candidates. You can also test the prescreening experience before you send your message to see what it will look like to candidates.

Hiring Assistant can also answer the candidate’s questions at the end of a prescreening conversation if it’s sure of the answer. You can provide additional information for Hiring Assistant to use to answer candidate questions through the project settings.

How Hiring Assistant prescreens candidates

Prescreening introduction

When you message a candidate and they accept your InMail, Hiring Assistant will find an appropriate moment in the conversation to request their permission to proceed with prescreening. For instance, if the candidate shows interest, Hiring Assistant will initiate the prescreening process. If the candidate requests additional information or actions from you, Hiring Assistant will wait until the candidate is ready to start the prescreening. Additionally, you have the option to manually start the prescreening process at any point in the conversation.

Once Hiring Assistant starts the prescreening process, it’ll use the introduction message provided during setup. If the candidate agrees to proceed with prescreening, Hiring Assistant will go through the list of questions you’ve reviewed and approved during setup. The candidate can ask to be connected back to you at any time. If the candidate declines the prescreening request, Hiring Assistant will connect back to you. Hiring Assistant’s messages will appear to come from “[your name]’s Hiring Assistant” so candidates are aware that the messages are coming from Hiring Assistant.

Follow-up questions about the role

After Hiring Assistant has gone through the list of topics, it will ask the candidate to share any questions they have about the job for you to answer. Hiring Assistant sources answers to candidate questions from several locations, such as:

  • The LinkedIn job post
  • Your LinkedIn Company Page
  • Custom text or uploaded attachments you provide in your project settings

When conflicting information is found across these resources, Hiring Assistant prioritizes information in the following order:

  • Custom text from project settings
  • Document uploads (.pdf and .docx) in project settings
  • Role details
  • The LinkedIn job post

If Hiring Assistant can’t answer a question, it will connect back to you.

Prescreening progress and summary

You can check the progress of the prescreening in your Inbox. At any point, you can take over the conversation by clicking Take over in the message thread in your Inbox.

If a candidate in the middle of prescreening stops responding, Hiring Assistant will send them a reminder after one week. After two weeks of no response, Hiring Assistant will end the prescreening conversation.

After prescreening is complete, you can view a summary of the prescreening conversation, including questions Hiring Assistant could and couldn’t answer, by navigating to the message thread in your Inbox and clicking View summary. You can also find the summary in the candidate’s profile from anywhere in the project. LinkedIn may evaluate the conversations in order to improve the product.

You can continue the conversation with the candidate(s) after Hiring Assistant completes prescreening.

Notes:

  • Hiring Assistant adds a note to the bottom of every message it sends so candidates are aware that the messages are coming from Hiring Assistant.
  • If the candidate doesn’t respond within seven days, Hiring Assistant will send a follow-up message to the candidate. If the candidate doesn’t respond seven days after Hiring Assistant’s follow-up message, the prescreening will stop.
  • Candidates will be able to engage in prescreening after they accept your initial InMail message and Hiring Assistant has found an appropriate moment in the conversation to request their permission to proceed. Prescreening won’t use additional InMail credits.
  • You won’t be charged extra credits for prescreening because the candidates have already engaged with your initial outreach.
