Enable self-serve activation through login for learners

Last updated: 2 years ago

LinkedIn Learning offers you the option to allow your learners to self-activate their accounts by directly managing your approved domains in-product.

When you enable this setting, you no longer need to manually authenticate a learner and send them an invitation email to activate. Learners can self-activate directly from the LinkedIn Learning sign in page instead of going to a specific activation page. If your organization uses multiple domains and authentication methods, you can easily specify which connection to use for each domain.

Important to know

Activation through login is only recommended for accounts that:

(a) Have organization-wide access to LinkedIn Learning

(b) Do not share email domains with another Learning account

(c) Do not use an email domain for SSO that’s different from what learners may commonly use to sign in

(d) Do not have SSO configurations that don’t provide emails

(e) Do not use anonymized email addresses or profiles for learners

(f) Are willing to have Email to new learners enabled

Because an email may need to be sent to learners to confirm their email addresses, enabling the Activation through login setting also enables the Emails to new learners setting (see Related tasks section below). Similarly, disabling the email setting disables the activation setting.

To enable self-activation for LinkedIn Learning users:

  1. From Learning Management, click Me.

  2. Select Authenticate from the dropdown.

  3. Click Automate User Management on the left menu, then navigate to Activation Through Login.

  4. Select Add email domain from the dropdown.

  5. Enter your company’s email domain address.

  6. Choose the correct SSO option, if required.

  7. Click Save.

Here's a tip

Once you have enabled self-activation, learners can activate their LinkedIn Learning accounts by signing in with their organization email addresses.

If the learner is eligible to login using SSO: Learners are directed to your Identity Provider for authentication.

If the learner is ineligible to login using SSO: Learners automatically receive an invitation email to the provided email address to confirm their account.
