We, the PTC IT Pune team, recently hosted an engaging introductory session on Systems Thinking Awareness with our guest speaker, Dr. Sukanta Bhatt, PhD (IIT Kharagpur) former PTC colleague and global Systems Thinking panel representative from India. The session drew an impressive turnout of 175 participants from the IT team a reflection of our shared curiosity to rethink how we solve problems in an increasingly complex world. Why this matters Today’s challenges - project delays, quality issues, cross-functional misalignment are rarely isolated problems. They are systems problems. Dr. Bhatt shared powerful insights into how the Western world is transforming its problem-solving approaches by adopting Systems Thinking moving from reactive fixes to structural understanding. Key takeaways from the session · A system is defined by its elements, interconnections, and purpose and behavior emerges from its structure. · We must look beyond events and symptoms (Iceberg Model) to uncover patterns, structures, and mental models. · Feedback loops, delays, and non-linearities often drive outcomes more than individual actions. · Real change happens when we identify high-leverage points sometimes by shifting goals, rules, or even mindsets. Through real-world case studies from factory shipment crises to complex field challenges, he demonstrated how a systemic lens can accelerate decisions, reduce rework, and create sustainable impact.
