Ray's new book, How to Create a Mind, was released in the weeks just prior to the event, his first since his New York Times bestseller, The Singularity is Near.

Keynotes were given by Bre Pettis (Founder & CEO of Makerbot, Co-Founder of NYC Resistor hardware hackers' collective), Francesca Ferrando (Philosopher of Posthumanism & visiting scholar at Columbia University, doctoral candidate at University of Rome), Jincey Lumpkin (Attorney, CEO and Chief Sexy Officer of lesbian erotica brand, Juicy Pink Box and sex columnist for The Huffington Post) and Ken Segall (Adman to Steve Jobs, Creative Director of Apple's "Think Different" campaign who coined the name "iMac," and author of Insanely Simple).

    There was —
    • A screening of the Sundance award-winning short film, TOMO.
    • Artwork on display by Chris Conte and Sophie Kahn.
    • Talks by the founders of eight NYC mobile and geo-location based tech startups.

A live music performance by Jon Carin of Roger Waters band and formerly of Pink Floyd, was cancelled. As a result of Hurricane Sandy, Roger Waters was scheduled to perform a benefit show on December 12th, and Jon Carin's performance had a schedule conflict with Roger Waters' band rehearsal.

TEDxSiliconAlley 2012 was an all day event, from 9:30AM to 9:30PM on December 3, held at Terminal 5, on West 56th St. in New York City.

Humanity Plus' mission is to advocate on behalf of life-sciences / genetics, robotics and the advancement of technology toward human longevity, enhancement, and to exponentially improve the quality-of-life of the aged, towards the ultimate goal of curing all age related death.

This also gave me the opportunity to work with one of the heroes of my youth — Ken "R.U. Sirius" Goffman, co-founder of Mondo 2000 Magazine was then Editor-in-Chief of h+ Magazine.

During the magazine's brief run as a print publication, I was a contributing writer covering art at the intersection of technology. This included two features: one on the work of Christopher Conté and one on the work of Sophie Kahn, each shown as PDFs below.
