ELDT was implemented to create a national standard for truck driver training, ensuring all new drivers receive a baseline level of education before obtaining their commercial driver’s license (CDL). While individual states can have additional regulations, every training provider must meet FMCSA requirements and be listed on their registry. This system helps prospective drivers identify legitimate schools and prevents unregulated training from leading to licensure.
