How AI Makes Medicine More Humane: An Analysis by Chatfuel CEO A new article from Fedor Pak, CEO of our portfolio company Chatfuel, has been published. Pavel wrote a column in MedCity News about how AI is transforming patient interactions in clinics. Key points from the article worth taking note of: ▪️ AI shouldn't replace doctors; it should assist. Medical clinics don't need an "all-knowing digital doctor." A much more useful tool is a "polite assistant with maximum functionality," who reminds patients about appointments 24/7, forwards instructions, answers common questions, and helps with scheduling. ▪️ Time savings and revenue growth. In real-world cases, communication automation allows clinics to process 3-5 times more requests without hiring new staff, reduces the number of patients who don't show up for appointments without warning by up to 45%, and increases the volume of paid procedures by 20-40% per week. ▪️ Automation makes clinics more humane. Doctors spend an average of almost 6 hours maintaining electronic medical records for every 8 hours they spend seeing patients. When AI takes over routine tasks, doctors arrive at their appointments less burned out and more focused. ▪️ It's not just about chatbots; communication automation is just the first step. AI support for clinical decision-making, predictive follow-ups, automated documentation, and more innovative anamnesis collection processes will follow. Most cap tables are built to avoid awkward conversations. Andrey Kostyuk thinks that’s exactly the problem. I was at an investor roundtable organized by VNTR – VCs, PE investors, advisors, founders. A good room. Andrey, CEO and co-founder of AAlchemy Ventures, ran most of the discussion, and one point he made has been sitting with me since. He’s skeptical of the 50:50 co-founder split. Even thought it’s actually the most common structure between two founders. In his view, also the worst one. In almost every company there’s one lead founder, the person the business genuinely revolves around. And if that’s obvious to everyone inside the company but invisible on the cap table, investors notice. It’s not a groundbreaking idea, sure. But it’s one of those things that makes complete sense the moment someone says it out loud. The other number that came up, this one from someone at a local innovation hub: Tech now accounts for ~13% of Cyprus GDP. Nearly on par with tourism. Growing at 20%+ year-on-year since 2020. For a country most people still associate primarily with sun and favourable tax structures, that’s remarkable. Expat talent flooded in, pulled local talent up with it, and quietly built one of the more interesting entrepreneurial ecosystems in Europe. Good evening overall, thanks to the organizers. Healthcare investments: what to expect in 2026 Investors in #healthcare are cautiously optimistic about a return of early-stage activity and exits in 2026. The funding imbalance toward late-stage rounds and the scarcity of early-stage capital remains a structural issue across both the US and European markets. At the same time, healthcare continues to attract increasing attention from venture investors. After several challenging years, exit markets are gradually reopening, with healthcare administration, AI, and data analytics emerging as key areas of investor interest. Had a thought-provoking conversation with Ellie Pavlick of Brown University's new AI Research Institute (ARIA) for Masters of Scale with Bob Safian, Fast Company transcribing, on an increasingly pressing question: Should AI have a role in mental health treatment? The numbers are sobering. One billion out of eight billion people struggle with mental health issues, yet fewer than half seek treatment and most find the cost prohibitive. Meanwhile, research shows that therapy and mental health support rank among the top use cases for ChatGPT and other foundation models. This isn't theoretical anymore. People are using AI for mental health support, whether or not we're ready for it. That's exactly why Brown created ARIA: to provide scientific leadership around what this technology can and can't do, rather than letting it evolve without proper guardrails.
