California's energy costs are among the highest in the nation, and addressing this is crucial. The original vision was that renewable energy—solar, wind, etc.—would lead to more affordable energy over time, with predictable cost adjustments as the grid adapted. However, the Public Utilities Commission has approved rate increases without sufficiently accelerating renewable energy adoption. These increases often fund wildfire risk response and grid reinforcement, adding layers of costs for ratepayers.
