Meet the founder who quit a 20-year global career to prove that you don't need to own land to get a loan The answer is Hardika Shah, Founder & CEO of Kinara Capital. In 2026, while most apps are fighting for city users, Hardika has built a fortress by supporting the real backbone of India: the small shopkeepers and local manufacturers👇 1) Hardika didn't learn business in a fancy office. She learned it watching her mother run a small grocery store in Mumbai. She saw how hard it was for small owners to grow because banks always asked for "collateral" (like a house or land) which they didn't have. This shaped her big idea: Don't bet on the land, bet on the person and their business 🧠 2) Before Kinara, if you didn't have property to pledge, you had to go to local moneylenders who charged huge interest. Hardika changed the game. Using smart tech, Kinara looks at how a business actually makes money (its cash flow) instead of asking for property papers. If a shop owner has a family emergency, they use data to be lenient instead of aggressive ⚖️ 3) Hardika noticed that women entrepreneurs face the biggest "trust gap." That’s why she built a women-majority team and the "HerVikas" program. It gives women-owned businesses special discounts and a 60-day "repayment holiday" to help them get started. She isn't just lending money; she’s building confidence 🛡️ 4) Hardika famously said that copying Western business models won't work here. She built a Hybrid Model: use the app for a 1-minute check, but keep 125+ branches for a personal "doorstep" touch. This balance is why her business is thriving while others struggle - proving that in India, high-tech needs a "high-touch" human connection 🏛️ 5) The results are massive. Kinara’s assets grew by 150% in just two years. By 2026, her work has helped support over 390,000 jobs in local neighbourhoods. She proved that when you give a small business owner a fair chance, they don't just pay you back - they hire more people and grow the whole community 📈 The ➡️ Insight: The 2026 winner isn't the one building for the rich 1%. The founding PM role is incredibly opaque and hard, yet it is one of the most important early hires a startup will ever make. 🤔🧩 Here are a few secrets. 👇 I sat down with two close friends and incredible founding PMs, Karishma Irani (VP of Product at Scribe, founding PM at LaunchDarkly and New Relic) and Tabish Gilani (Head of Product and Growth at Kajabi, founding PM at Replit). 🧠🚀 Some highlights: 1) Part of the job is to prove why you exist at all. 💥 A founding PM needs to be comfortable with ambiguity and willing to do whatever it takes to help the business succeed. This can mean hopping on support tickets, fixing data warehouse issues, or filling gaps wherever needed. 🛠️📊 2) Finding “PMF fit”, Product Manager–Founder fit. 🤝 Every PM’s job, to some degree, is about building and maintaining trust. For founding PMs in particular, a disproportionate amount of the work is earning the trust of the founders and the early team. 🔑 3) Speed beats perfection. ⚡ In founding PM work, in some cases 80 percent of what you try will not work at all.
