𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗛-𝟭𝗕 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀. Google. Amazon. Microsoft. So everyone applies there. And ends up competing with thousands of other candidates. But that’s not how the market actually works. A large portion of H-1B visas come from 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗱-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 that most students never even look at. That’s where the gap is. It’s not always your resume. It’s often where you’re applying. When everyone targets the same companies, competition becomes extreme by default. The candidates who break through usually do something different. They look where fewer people are looking. Will SDE-1 roles exist in 2-3 years? Yes. But not for “ticket implementers.” AI already handles boilerplate, CRUD, refactors. If your strength is execution, you’re replaceable. AI makes implementation cheap. Thinking just became expensive. The future SDE-1 won’t be entry-level coders. They’ll be entry-level thinkers. What's your view on this? Big win for international students on F-1 → H-1B! 🎓➡️💼 USCIS has clarified that the new $100,000 H-1B fee does not apply to changes of status filed inside the U.S. including the path from F-1 (OPT/CPT) to H-1B. That means companies hiring students already in the U.S. won’t pay the extra fee for COS, extensions, or amendments. This keeps the focus on growing talent that’s studying and training here. 🙌 As someone currently on F-1 working toward H-1B, this is huge: it reduces friction for employers and gives students a clearer runway into the workforce. When I started my job search in the US, I made one 𝐁𝐈𝐆 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞: I blindly applied to thousands of companies without checking if they had sponsored H-1B visas in the last 5 years. I also didn’t realize: 1. Some companies hire mainly in 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋, while others peak in 𝐒𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 2. Many mid-sized and small companies sponsor visas too, but I didn’t know about them 3. Building a 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕 of such companies takes an enormous amount of time 🚀 I eventually cracked Google and now work at Walmart in Silicon Valley, but looking back, I realize I could have saved so much effort if I had focused only on companies that actually hire international students.
