Gecko Robotics partners with U.S. Steel to explore AI-driven infrastructure analysis. North Shore-based unicorn company Gecko Robotics announced two partnerships with local companies alongside the Pennsylvania Energy & Innovation Summit. Gecko, which uses robotics and AI to perform infrastructure analysis, will “explore a new collaboration” with U.S. Steel, according to a joint statement from Gecko CEO Jake Loosararian and U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt. “Pittsburgh is fast becoming the physical AI capital of the world,” Loosararian and Burritt’s joint statement reads. “U.S. Steel and Gecko Robotics are pleased to announce plans to explore a new collaboration focused on the health of steel mill infrastructure throughout the U.S. The future of manufacturing is taking shape now, where Gecko’s advances in AI and robotics could combine with U.S. Steel’s 120-plus-year legacy of industrial ingenuity and grit.”

2025 Regional Economic Development Council Initiative Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the launch of the 2025 REDC Initiative. Since 2011, the state’s 10 Regional Councils have enlisted a bottom-up approach to economic development, evaluating and supporting projects that advance strategic regional and statewide priorities. Up to $60 million in Regional Council Capital Funds will be made available in the 2025 Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) to facilitate projects that advance each region’s strategic plan and state priorities. The $60 million available includes up to $8 million in capital funding for tourism-related projects, previously offered through the Market New York Capital Grant program, intended to support capital investments that will strengthen the state’s tourism initiatives. Massachusetts homeowners ▶️new report finds that hitting the state’s solar + storage targets by 2030 could save utility customers $313 million every year — simply from lower wholesale energy prices flowing through to bills. And the benefits don’t stop there: ▪️ Stronger winter grid reliability as solar + storage help meet peak demand ▪️ 29 billion cubic feet less gas used ▪️ 1.6 million tons of CO₂ avoided — the equivalent of taking ~350,000 cars off the road for a year
