Big news for children’s oral health in Sacramento County! We’re thrilled to share that California Northstate University (CNU) has been awarded funding to bring its proven Concentric Circles Model of community-based oral health to families with young children across Sacramento County. And we’re proud to announce that Dental.com is partnering with CNU to power this initiative with our virtual-first, AI-enabled care technology. Why This Matters For decades, the traditional dental system built around office and clinic visits has failed to reach many low-income, diverse, and rural families. Only 50% of U.S. children receive an annual dental visit For Black, Hispanic, or low-income children, that drops to below 30% This leads to preventable pain, infections, ER visits, and learning challenges This program directly addresses those disparities. What the Concentric Circles Model Does CNU’s multi-tier model brings dental prevention and early intervention into the community, partnering with: Head Start programs Home visiting organizations Culturally aligned Community Health Workers (CHWs) These teams deliver: ✔️ Early oral health assessments ✔️ Fluoride varnish ✔️ Coaching on “mouth-healthy habits” ✔️ Care navigation ✔️ Portable dental hygiene services ✔️ Telehealth connections for early treatment The model has shown that 80%+ of children can remain healthy without ever needing a trip to the dental office. Who Benefits The program will begin with families enrolled in SETA Head Start across five Sacramento County zip codes, expanding over time to additional regions. These families are culturally diverse, primarily low-income, and face major barriers to traditional dental care. Bay Area Manufacturers: The Challenges Are Real And So Are the Opportunities! At the AMBayArea Summit, Christopher Thornberg offered some insights into what we should be concerned about at the the moment. Here are 4 take ways that stood out to me: 1. The Economy Is Slowing, But It's Not a Crisis, Unless You’re Unprepared: Despite the noise from the media and politicians our economy is actually doing good and households are doing relatively well. What most people are experiencing is a cooling off from the “white-hot” economy back down to normal growth. However there is potential for a chain reaction that could disrupt things further and burst the current asset bubble we have. If you’re in manufacturing, that means doubling down on operational clarity, financial discipline, and staying close to your markets. The winners will be the ones who adapt early—not react late. 2. California’s Growth Story Isn’t Over But It’s Up to Us: Some areas are slowing, others are still expanding. Growth isn’t automatic anymore; it’s a choice. Manufacturers who innovate, embrace flexibility, and push for business-friendly policies will help shape what comes next. If you’re waiting for perfect conditions, you’ll be left behind. 3. We’re Running Out of Workers And Policy Is Not Helping: This isn’t just a hiring challenge—it’s a demographic one. Birth rates in the US are falling, and half of all the new labor force growth for the last decade in the US is from foreign-born workers. If we don’t fix our immigration system, we’re going to see a steep decline in workforce availability. That’s a serious threat to productivity—and to the health of our economy. Manufacturers need to be loud advocates for common-sense immigration reform now. 4. Housing Supply Is A Major Bottleneck to California's Growth: Let’s be clear, California doesn't have an affordability issue—it has a supply issue. We are simply not building enough housing in California, and that is why housing prices continue to rise. That rising cost in housing is what drives most of the cost of living issues here in California. That’s holding back workers, and by extension, your ability to grow and scale. We need to treat housing supply the same way we treat supply chain risk: as a strategic business priority. Policy advocacy here isn’t optional—it’s essential. What Can You Do Right Now? Stay agile. Read the signals and adapt faster than your competitors. Be a voice for immigration reform. We can't grow the economy if we don't grow our workforce. Invest in your workforce—train, retain, and upskill. Push for smart housing policy. If workers can’t live here, they can’t work here. We’ve got challenges ahead—but for manufacturers in the Bay Area, that also means opportunity. SB 660 is a major win for California's Data Exchange Framework (DxF)! This new law provides the essential governance and enforcement structure the DxF needs. It moves the state beyond inconsistent adoption toward mandated compliance, cementing the DxF's role as the cornerstone of whole-person care. Though thousands of organizations have signed the DxF Data Sharing Agreement (DSA), SB 660 strengthens the entire framework by establishing a formal path for compliance and enforcement and expanding required signatories to new key stakeholders, including EMS. This bill will significantly improve our capacity for coordinated care, enhance public health reporting, and strengthen our response to crises and natural disasters. At Intrepid, we've been pioneers in complex health and social data exchange for more than ten years. We're excited by the new accountability SB 660 brings and look forward to continuing to partner with the ecosystem to drive successful implementation and utilization!
