Projects

  • Semi-Supervised GANs for Data Efficient Classification

    -

Implemented GANs with different configurations to generate realistic images of Melanoma cancer tissues. Leveraged the trained discriminator to learn to classify the tissues as cancerous and non-cancerous with minimum training data.

  • Virtual Fitting Room

    -

Emulate a virtual fitting room using Conditional Image-to-Image Translation. Given an image of a person and an image of an outfit, generate an image of a person wearing that outfit.

  • Text-to-Image Synthesis using Attentional GANs

    -

Trained a GAN that performs text to image generation by paying attention to relevant words in the text description. Deep Attentional Multimodal Similarity Model (DAMSM) is incorporated for fine-grained image-text matching loss.
Additionally, the network was extended by adding an Image Captioning module and adding the captioning loss with the generator loss in order to improve the quality of images generated.

  • Statistical Language Modeling

    -

Built a news article classifier to classify whether it is a real news article or a fake article generated from a tri-gram language model. Used Pointwise Mutual Information (PMI) along with word2vec and a 7-gram language model as features to an SVM with the rbf (radial bias function) kernel and achieved the highest accuracy (96%) in a class of 80 students.

    Other creators
  • QryEval Search Engine

    -

    - Built a search engine from scratch in Java
    - Implemented information retrieval algorithms like exact-match Unranked Boolean, Ranked Boolean and best-match BM25 and Indri algorithms
    - Enhanced the system using result re-ranking techniques like query expansion, Learning to Rank (LeToR) and query diversification
    - Evaluated performance based on metrics like MAP (Mean Average Precision), Precision@k and NDCG (Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain)

  • Video to Text - Automatic Generation of Sentential Descriptions for Videos

    -

In this project, we implemented ResNet for object detection, 3D ConvNets for action recognition and pyAudioAnalysis for extracting audio features. We used an autoencoder to fuse these features and feed them as input to an LSTM. Our model was evaluated using the METEOR metric.

  • Emotion Detection from Text

    -

For this project, we analyzed bag of words, Naïve Bayes and vector space models such as word2vec to classify sentences in the ISEAR dataset into the 7 emotion labels present in it.

  • Machine Learning for Heart Failure Evaluation

    -

Implemented Neural Networks, SVM, CART and Random Forest multiclass classification algorithms on the Heart Disease Dataset from UCI Machine Learning Repository to build a system for heart failure severity and type prediction.

  • Tag Recommendation for StackOverflow posts

    -

The project aims at accurately recommending tags for questions posted on the question-answering forum, StackOverflow. Used Natural Language Processing for pre-processing the data. Labeled LDA Algorithm and a spreading activation algorithm for finding associated tags followed by a weight tuning algorithm were implemented.

  • Multi-Feature Fusion for Semantic Multimedia Analysis

    -

The project aimed at semantically classifying videos in the Trecvid 2005 video corpus into respective classes. This was done in MATLAB and implementation included:

    - Keyframe extraction of videos
    - Extraction of visual features like Color Moments (CM)
    - Key point detection using the Scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) algorithm
    - Extracted features were concatenated and fed into a linear SVM for classification of videos
