One of the biggest misconceptions in manufacturing sourcing: Savings are “done” once the contract is signed. In reality, that’s where risk starts! What we see most often: • Contract pricing doesn’t fully align to ERP item masters • Volume tiers and discounts aren’t consistently enforced • SLAs exist on paper, but no one is actively validating them The result? The D365 ERP market in the Middle East has taken a big hit due to recent happenings. To do my little bit to help…. The enterprise data market is other segment that represents a strategic sector for data based cloud tools. SAP, had its challanges to the ETL integrations market, Oracle has their own ERP, deployed in their own cloud infrastructure plus with Netsuite acquisition, they both have an important market share in ERP solutions. SAP has made strategically partnerships with Databricks to integrate their product with SAP BTP and BDC tools, allowing share data with external services in two way syncs. Snowflake got zero-copy from SAP and Google Bigquery is going to be official the next year. It seems that Oracle is going to bet on more vertical solutions inside their platform and SAP is going to be more open to external strategic providers. This market still is shifting and we are going to see more chapters next.

Precision Configuration Unlocking Your ERP Below I share snippets of two Charts of Accounts   The first is from the Chart of Accounts from the SAP installation of a FTSE 100 corporation   In conducting my initial discovery I started by interviewing the CEO   “Norman, how would you rate SAP?”   “James, at the operational level I would give SAP 7 or 8 out of 10, the business is running well   “at the strategic executive level I would give it 1 out of 10, we have four expensive senior accountants & teams who spend three weeks a month in Excel producing the Board Pack because we cannot get the information we need out of SAP & Business Objects”   I conducted my standard investigation culminating in a structured walk through of SAP   Snippet 1 is the Chart of Accounts that I found   There is zero structure, zero logic, medicines next to clothing, health & safety, scraping, loading, dozing, etcetera   Consideration of this list confirms the 1/10 score given by the CEO, this was clearly why SAP was not delivering   The Materials Group was an equally shoddy mess!   So was the rest of the configuration   It is important to stress that this has NOTHING to do with SAP, it is a great product   While this is an extreme case, poorly structured validation lists are common place in the vast majority of ERP implementations   So-called “industry standard” Charts of Accounts are not much better from a strategic decision support perspective   The second snippet is for a Chart of Accounts that I developed for a manufacturing client about the same time   Notice the hierarchy in the descriptions mirrored by the trailing periods in the account codes   The capital letters are for structure & logic NOT for posting   The code scheme mirrors the intelligence in the descriptions   This chart is easy to navigate resulting in incrementally quicker posting times & greatly reduced posting errors resulting in reduced audit time & cost   Simple reports are quick & easy to create   In the Data Warehouse this data opens the way for powerful & sophisticated reports & models that enable the business to push the boundaries of decision support   In the ERP, the highly structured, “intelligent” codes open the door for small pieces of clever strategic software that enable the ERP to become a powerful strategic resource turned to the exact strategic requirements of the business   See the case study in the Comment below for a detailed discussion of a real world case where the above so empowered the business that they had to build a much larger distribution center because they were growing so fast because of what the ERP enabled them to do, far beyond anything their competitors could do   See my article & video “What exactly IS Precision ERP Configuration? – Turbocharging any ERP!” At https://lnkd.in/eDZVE5-m See the links in the first comment to learn more about precision configuration & to enroll for my free Executive Briefing

Wax on, wax off.... This morning was spent on how to attach work instructions in D365. Seems to be a simple pattern. Pick an object, drill down to the detailed level in its structure, decide on the technical format of the instruction for that detail and then add it.
