https://lnkd.in/exbM7WwX An article well worth reading. AI agents won’t replace underlying ERP. But they will fundamentally change how enterprise systems are used. This recent Diginomica article highlighted SAP’s perspective that the enterprise tech stack is reshaping for the first time in years as AI becomes embedded in enterprise software. That observation is correct — but it also exposes a critical architectural shift that many organizations are just beginning to understand. For decades, enterprise systems like SAP have functioned as systems of record. Humans interacted with those systems through applications, navigating workflows and executing transactions step by step. AI agents change that model. Increasingly, agents — not users — will execute enterprise work. Work transforms. And that creates a new requirement in the enterprise architecture. AI reasoning alone cannot safely run enterprise operations. Large language models are excellent at interpreting intent, analyzing context, and navigating unstructured information. But enterprises require something different for execution: • policy enforcement • identity and access governance (IAM) • transactional integrity • compliance and auditability • predictable outcomes In other words, enterprise agentic execution mix of probabilistic with deterministic guardrails. The future enterprise stack therefore requires a hybrid architecture: Probabilistic AI to interpret intent, decision and reason across enterprise context combined with Deterministic execution frameworks that enforce policies, identity, governance, and safe transactional operations. There is another important challenge. Enterprise processes rarely live inside a single system. Order-to-cash, supply chain operations, finance processes, and customer operations span multiple platforms — ERP, CRM, supply chain, external services, and internal knowledge systems. AI agents therefore need continuous access to enterprise context and the ability to orchestrate data and services across distributed systems. This is why a new architectural layer is emerging in the enterprise stack: The Enterprise Execution Layer for Agentic AI combined with AI reasoning, this layer provides: • deterministic governance and policy enforcement • enterprise identity and access controls • orchestration of data and services across systems • safe execution of enterprise transactions In this model: ERP platforms like SAP remain the system of record and business context. AI provides reasoning and intelligence. But the real transformation happens in the agentic layer that allows AI to execute governed enterprise work. The enterprises that succeed in the next phase of AI adoption will not simply deploy copilots. @mywave.ai They will build the execution architecture that allows AI agents to safely operate across the enterprise.

SAP’s decision to extend S/4HANA Compatibility Pack usage rights to May 2026 isn’t a reprieve; it’s a final transition window. Compatibility Packs were always designed as temporary bridges. This short extension makes it clear that we’ve moved from “if we exit” to “exactly when and how we exit.” With the May deadline looming, classic SAP ERP functions embedded in S/4HANA on-premise must be replaced. There’s no open-ended runway left as delays increase the risk of rushed decisions, business disruption, or sub-optimal migrations. This is no longer a future-state discussion. Architects and program owners need clarity on remaining Compatibility Pack dependencies and a sequenced remediation plan. What we’re seeing in our region is that organisations that treat this as a data-led transformation problem, not just a technical upgrade, are moving faster and with less risk. Understanding what data moves, what stays, and how processes transition is now critical. This final extension is best viewed as a planning gift — not extra time to wait. May 2026 will arrive quickly and the organisations that succeed will be the ones already executing.
