Most people focus on "Artificial Intelligence" -- rather than focusing on "Context Intelligence" -- aka: giving the AI the proper data to do its job. I love how Joe A. controlled the context that the AI receives. Nicely done. Big lesson to learn here: If at any time you are NOT happy with the output that you are getting from the AI (whether ChatGPT, Claude code or even CustomGPT.ai) -- ask yourself "What data did I make available to the AI for this task?" Think about it : We would never expect a fellow human to do something for us without giving him the proper context -- like would you go to Dunkin Donuts and have them read your mind and know exactly how they should make your coffee? Same holds true for AI.

I took my second Waymo across Los Angeles last night, and the experience was largely excellent. From the smooth pickup to navigating the freeway (which is now supported here in LA!), the technology is undeniably impressive. However, the "last mile" wasn't quite perfect. I was dropped off on the left side of a two lane, one way street, directly in traffic rather than on the shoulder. Also, my destination was on the right. As I've written previously (https://lnkd.in/gHw7drrc), there is great promise in using technologies like AI in countless ways, from autonomous driving to talent measurement. However, my recent Waymo experience highlights two critical lessons: 1. Humans Must Own the Outcome: Whether you are a passenger in an autonomous vehicle or managing talent, you cannot delegate accountability to the machine. Technology is a powerful tool, but humans must own the final result. In hiring, as in transport, we must remain in the driver's seat to ensure the "drop off" (i.e. the final decision) is the right one. 2. The Feedback Loop is Non Negotiable: Without human feedback to these systems, technology will never improve. I made sure to provide feedback on my ride, and we must do the same in our talent systems. If we don’t provide constant, iterative feedback, we lose the opportunity to refine them into something better. Progress happens when human intuition meets technological scale. We provide the feedback; the tech provides the lift.

The Last Mile Vending Machine Amazon just took another step toward closing one of healthcare’s most persistent gaps, the “last mile” between a doctor’s prescription and a patient actually filling it. Starting this December, Amazon Pharmacy will begin rolling out prescription vending machines inside One Medical clinics across Los Angeles, with expansion planned for 2026. These kiosks will stock common medications like antibiotics, blood pressure drugs, and inhalers so patients can pick up their prescriptions within minutes of seeing their doctor. But the rollout has clear boundaries. These kiosks won’t carry controlled substances or refrigerated drugs, and every unit’s inventory will be customized to that clinic’s prescribing patterns. A licensed pharmacist still verifies each order remotely, and if patients need consultation, they can connect virtually (think of it as a hybrid between a vending machine and a virtual pharmacy). Can a vending machine model preserve the empathy and trust that’s core to healthcare? Will this be seen as an evolution in access or another step in corporatizing care delivery? And how will regulators, payers, and clinicians adapt to a system where logistics increasingly define the patient experience? MIT’s recent report found that 95% of enterprise AI pilots fail to deliver ROI, with value trapped in workflows, slow scaling, and misplaced bets in sales and marketing instead of back-office and integration wins. But these are symptoms, not the root cause. The real issue is strategic misalignment, as oftentimes organizations don’t clearly define the kind of bet they’re making. At the core, every pilot is a capital allocation and risk management decision. Pilots fail without clarity on the business angle, hypotheses, and go/no-go criteria. To address this, I’ve developed The Pilot Strategy Framework™, a structured approach to categorizing AI pilots based on their strategic intent and business impact. 1️⃣ Validation pilots - validate feasibility before scaling and committing further resources. 2️⃣ Internal adoption pilots - phased rollout of AI within departments, inside existing workflows, to see if it can unlock ROI. This can often signal market readiness to customers, competitors, investors, and the industry overall. 3️⃣ Customer-facing pilots - test whether existing customers will adopt new AI capabilities and whether it’s commercially safe to scale. 4️⃣ Legacy integration pilots - answer if AI can unlock value in legacy systems. 5️⃣ New product pilots - test whether additional AI offerings can be introduced; offerings that are core or adjacent to our current products and generate new ROI. Each pilot is a bet: upfront decide how much capital to risk, what value it’s meant to unlock, tradeoffs to consider, and the conditions under which you’ll scale or stop. Ultimately, it's about prioritizing the one(s) that provide the most enterprise value. Which pilot types is your organization running, and how are they moving the needle on your business outcomes?
