You don't need to hire a software farm for anything anymore. You need one developer who sits next to you for 6 weeks and learns how your business runs. Not how it looks in a deck. How it actually runs. The messy inbox system. The Notion doc nobody follows. The 4-step process your EA does manually every morning. A good AI developer, someone who works in n8n, Claude, and modern automation tools, turns that into systems that run without you. We placed one with a 12-person e-commerce brand. In 8 weeks he'd automated their order exception workflow, their influencer outreach follow-up, and their weekly reporting. The admin team is being trained in AI. Those that don’t adopt are gone. 3 tasks. Each one was eating 6-8 hours a week from someone on the team. That’s money in your pocket. 416h per year. That’s almost a full quarter's worth of work. Recently, a client asked me to add PDF download functionality to a large full-stack application—and that immediately influenced my tech choice. I chose Handlebars over EJS, and honestly, I don’t regret it. In large codebases, structure beats flexibility. Handlebars enforces a clean separation of concerns, keeps business logic out of templates, and scales naturally with layouts, partials, and helpers—which is exactly what you want when generating complex HTML for PDFs. Yes, EJS is lighter. But in real-world, production-grade applications, readability, maintainability, and scalability matter far more than small performance gains. For medium to large projects, Handlebars is simply the better engineering decision. When a dev leads with “clean architecture,” I pause. If they push for the perfect setup before writing a single feature, I ask why? It’s not that quality doesn’t matter. It’s that context does. Perfect code doesn’t help if no one needs what you built.

I see so many startups claiming they want to hire elite Software Engineers, but then demanding a coding task before even having an intro call. That’s not how you attract top talent.

To those in the software development field: Since layoffs do not seem to be slowing down much and AI might or might not replace a preponderance of coder jobs, if you were not in software development, what other profession or career path would you choose?

The .NET Dev shortage is real, but not in the way you might think. “We’ve had a .NET role open for weeks now. 100+ applicants. Still no one who fits.” Does this story sound familiar? The issue? You're likely not just hiring a developer. You more than likely need an engineer who can: ✅ Write clean C# ✅ Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines ✅ Automate testing with Playwright ✅ Handle infra as code in Azure Whilst that's partly a dev, it's also a DevOps-literate, automation-first engineer. A user tries to sign up on your application with an email or other unique identifier like an SSN, but this email or SSN already exists in your database. 1. What status code will you respond with? 400? 409? 200 with an error message? 500? What status code? 2. What specific error message will you send along? "Email already exists"? "Duplicate identity"?
