No self-dealing / no personal benefit / no disqualified persons transactions. 2. If you use debt, UDFI/UBIT can apply even inside an IRA/Roth. Irrespective of Amazon’s claims, AI did not eliminate these jobs, but its leaders did. Efficiency has become the new moral alibi, as Kowal Smith posted in a recent Forbes blog. Besides Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google, and many others, have cited AI as justifications for thousands of cuts. When leaders make a human decision and hide behind a technical explanation, they do not just obscure accountability—they erode trust. “Cut now, justify later” has become the new mantra. AI provides the perfect scapegoat, efficiency the convenient alibi. The real danger is not machines taking over judgment—it is humans surrendering it. As Smith observes, moral outsourcing now wears a human face. The reality is that the productivity AI has promised, has yet to arrive. A recent MIT study found that 95% of companies that have invested in AI, have yet to see a measurable return. In short, companies are shrinking to pay for AI. Operating cash flow has dramatically fallen at Amazon, and the other tech giants, because of record spending on data centers, custom chips, and cloud infrastructure. In short, layoffs widen the distance between leaders and their people. They threaten the trust built between leaders and their organizations. Seven-hundred thousand job cuts were announced in the US in the first half of 2025, up 80% over the same period in 2024. And yet the stock market is at an all-time high. Unfortunately the social contract that binds workplaces, has become collateral damage, especially in public companies, where quarter to quarter performance matters. Taking a short-term financial hit for a long-term investment is not justifiable. This is not to suggest that workforce reductions are never necessary, but they can be carried out with dignity—through voluntary retirement programs, fair communication, and generous severance packages that preserve everyone’s sense of dignity. And the hypocrisy of it all, is that now more than ever, we need innovation, learning, and risk taking, especially in technology companies, and this has to emanate from humans. But in dehumanizing cultures, data without dialogue degrades judgement.
