The Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) initiative is a peer-to-peer learning platform for exploring how exchanges, in collaboration with investors, regulators, and companies, can enhance corporate transparency – and ultimately performance – on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues and encourage sustainable investment. The SSE is organized by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UN Global Compact, the UN Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).
The first meeting of the SSE was opened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in New York City, USA in 2009. The success of this event led to the launch a year later of a biennial series of SSE Global Dialogues taking place on even years. In addition to its flagship Global Dialogues, the SSE now also holds regional dialogues and high-level summit side events.
At the SSE 2012 Global Dialogue a new dimension to the initiative was launched, with the five participating stock exchanges making a public commitment to sustainability in their markets, thereby becoming SSE Partner Exchanges. The first five SSE Partner Exchanges, BM&FBOVESPA, the Egyptian Exchange, Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Borsa Istanbul and Nasdaq, are now joined by nearly all major stock exchanges worldwide from both developed and developing countries.
The SSE initiative continues to invite exchanges globally to become a Partner Exchange of the SSE by making a voluntary public commitment to promote improved ESG disclosure and performance among listed companies. It works with all of its Partner Exchanges through dialogue, capacity building and research to continue the momentum and to promote sustainable and transparent capital markets worldwide.

The SDG Media Zone is a designated space hosted in parallel to High Level Meetings and Summits that works as a "live social media newsroom" where journalists, bloggers, celebrities, media influencers, and high-level UN delegates from around the world were welcomed to generate discussion and engage a global online community in support of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Impact from the SDG Media Zone that managed 100s of media networks and influencers has already reached more than 30 million people in over 30 countries. An incredible feat as the UN celebrates the one year anniversary of the launch of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
The SDG Media Zone is powered by a partnership between the Office of the President of the General Assembly, the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General, the United Nations Department of Public Information... Scaling Technological Greenhouse Gas Removal: A Global Roadmap to 2050 | Published by Bezos Earth Fund |Prepared by RMI This report, prepared by RMI and published by the Bezos Earth Fund, presents a strategic roadmap for scaling up technological #greenhousegasremoval (#) to meet global #climategoals by mid-century. It argues that even the most aggressive emission reduction pathways will be insufficient to limit #warming to 1.5°C without the large-scale deployment of #carbonremovaltechnologies. The report emphasizes that achieving meaningful climate stabilization requires urgent investments, policy alignment, and global coordination to accelerate the deployment of technological GGR—complementing, not substituting, deep #emissionscuts. The analysis identifies four key technological GGR pathways: direct air capture with storage (DAC+S), #bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), enhanced weathering, and biochar. It evaluates these options based on scalability, cost trajectories, environmental integrity, and readiness levels. Among the critical findings are that technological GGR must grow by over 1,300 times its current scale to meet 2050 climate targets, and that the #cost curve can be rapidly driven down through learning-by-doing, similar to #solarPV and #batterystorage. The report highlights enabling conditions for scale, including long-term policy commitments, the development of #CO₂ #transport and #storage infrastructure, and robust measurement, reporting, and verification (#MRV) systems. It also presents regional opportunity maps showing where deployment can align with co-benefits such as #jobcreation, industrial innovation, and #ecosystem restoration. Case studies from early movers, including #theUnitedStates, #Kenya, and #Iceland, illustrate the importance of public-private partnerships and cross-border collaboration. In conclusion, this report provides a critical intervention in global climate policy discourse by repositioning technological GGR as a strategic pillar of net-zero planning rather than a marginal option. At a time when global emissions remain stubbornly high and #carbonbudgets are tightening, the report offers a clear, #data-driven, and actionable roadmap to mobilize the next wave of climate innovation. Its emphasis on urgency, scale, and systems-level coordination makes it a defining reference for decision-makers aiming to integrate #carbonremoval into national strategies and unlock the #industrialecosystem needed for a #netzerofuture.
