In my 20+ years in the insights industry, I’ve seen trends come and go, technologies transform our work, and market conditions shift. But one truth has never changed: 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀. Recently, I had the privilege of leading a CEO training for a credit union. We spent hours talking about how leaning in to consumer insights drives successful business strategy. Not long after, I was with a Fortune 500 global marketing team, exploring how insights best practices can help them stay deeply connected to the people they serve. Two very different industries. Two very different audiences. But the same truth emerged in both rooms: when times feel uncertain, the surest way forward is to lean in to consumer centricity. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵. Because at the end of the day, consumer centricity isn’t just a philosophy. It’s a compass. And right now, it’s pointing the way to the future for the companies bold enough to follow it. So what does consumer centricity 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 mean? Here's my definition:

https://lnkd.in/eBHx9YP2 Nubank just received conditional approval from the OCC to establish a U.S. national bank, and I think this is one of the clearest signals that top fintechs are shifting from “building on top of banks” to becoming regulated infrastructure. What caught my attention is the tradeoff: the U.S. market is brutal, but a national charter can unlock deposits, credit, and even digital asset custody under a single federal framework once fully approved. Now Nu enters the “bank organization” phase, with more milestones ahead like FDIC and Federal Reserve approvals, plus capital and timing requirements. That’s a real-world example of how growth in fintech is increasingly about regulation, risk management, and trust as much as product and UX. As a Penn State finance and computer science student focused on fintech, I love analyzing moves like this because they sit at the intersection of strategy, compliance, and scalable tech systems.
