We chose a good subject for our march Autotech Council meeting, and after this year's CES, it seems even more obvious. Our meeting on the AI Defined Vehicle will show how it's a natural next step after the Software Defined Vehicle phase that we've been in Tesla launched the Model S in 2012. Now, most carmakers have SDVs. It's time to layer on the AI in user-facing roles, and in invisible functions managing the vehicle.

#AIConfession Every technology wave comes with it's own jargon and acronyms. AI is no different. But personally, I found some of it sophomoric, or worse - boring. So, in my on-going personal journey to master the use of AI, and to have a little fun with it's "awareness", I asked it to recommend alternatives. Some of my favorites, from what I understand to be current AI slang: 🧠 AI washing - becomes #AIPuffery 🧠 Clanker - trying desperately to circumvent the derogatory implications, the best it came up with was #StochasticParrot 🧠 Slop - #AIDross #AISpam 🧠 Grocksucker - #Sheeple, #SlopEater (see above) this was more creative, yet the response cautioned me to avoid being overly critical! 🧠 Sloppers - at this point the AI engine ONLY admonished me to avoid derogatory terms and offered "neutral" ones. I guess it really did "learn" what I was up to and "seemed" to have little self-deprecating tendencies. What twists into itself have you taken AI? NEW JOB TITLES IF YOU ARE DEPLOYING AGENTIC AI🤓😜 If you’re deploying agentic AI in a regulated industry… Congratulations. You just created a whole new org chart. Because the moment an AI agent touches healthcare, law, insurance, or finance, you don’t just have “AI.” And the rules about accountability and professional responsibility have not changed. Here are the new job titles every regulated industry will have to consider: 1. Chief “Who Approved This?” Officer 2. Licensed AI Babysitter 3. Director of Nope 4. AI Hallucination Containment Lead 5. Stop-the-Line Button Owner 6. Head of Proof (a.k.a. Exhibit A) 7. AI Decision Trail Detective 8. Regulator Whisperer 9. VP of “That’s Not What We Meant” 10. AI Permission Police 11. Professional Responsibility Enforcer 12. The Person Who Gets Deposed But when the board, regulators, or judge asks: “Who approved this?” “The system did” is not an answer. It’s a confession. Energizing few days at The Wall Street Journal #TechLive 2025 in Napa Valley where frontier innovation, investing, and culture converge. Here are some of my top take-aways and reflections: 1. Michael Kratsios (White House OSTP) The U.S. must defend and extend its leadership in AI and advanced technologies, especially in relation to China. He framed this not as a zero-sum game but as a chance to build global partnerships, open frameworks, and exportable “tech stacks” that reflect our values. Tech competition is really about national strategy, values, and long-term infrastructure. Building with global interoperability and governance in mind isn’t optional—it’s strategic. 2. Assaf Rappaport (Founder & CEO of Wiz, bought by Google for $32B after only 5 years in business) Assaf shared a powerful moment: Wiz successfully cleared a key regulatory milestone in its $32 billion move to join Google Cloud—proof of how cloud, security, and AI are converging. Growth stories like this show that scale still matters—but so does agility. The intersection of cloud-scale infrastructure, security, and AI seems where much of the next wave of innovation will lie. 3. Sarah Friar (OpenAI CFO) Sarah offered a candid view: while AI hype is real, sustainable growth and responsible financing are vital. She noted that being “constantly compute-constrained” is one of OpenAI’s biggest issues. It’s a reminder that innovation isn’t just tech breakthroughs—it’s new business models (outcome-based pricing deep into verticals instead of just subscriptions), creative financing (partner warrants, how to finance faster chip cycles that is not as well-known as typical infra financing), and governance frameworks that enable scale. Also, as PCs powered the internet and smartphones powered mobile, what new substrate will turbocharge AI—voice, spatial, something else? 4. Michael Intrator (CoreWeave CEO) Michael made a bold case: the vast AI-infrastructure build-out (>$12 T by 2030) isn’t a bubble but a rational investment in an economy-shifting frontier. The compute, energy, hardware, and architecture layers often get less attention than models or use cases—but without them, innovation can’t scale. 5. Brené Brown & Kate Johnson (Lumen CEO) Brené and Kate highlighted leadership, vulnerability, and purpose. Curiosity, connection, and human-centered values create resilient organizations in a world of change. Amid the rush for “what’s next,” it’s easy to forget the “who” and “why.” The culture you build determines whether you win. It is about power arriving before restraint, autonomy before governance, speed before supervision. Adolescence is not when things fail because they are stupid. It is when they fail because they are capable and insufficiently constrained. That is exactly where AI is now. The real risk is not models going rogue. It is systems that appear competent, helpful and aligned whilst operating faster than humans can meaningfully oversee them. Policies, ethics statements and principles do not act at inference time. They do not intervene when systems decide. That is how real failures happen. This is no longer a philosophical alignment debate. It is a control problem. And control is not a value or an intention. It is an operational property built into the system itself. I joined Suzi Dafnis at the HerBusiness Ready to Lead Summit, a free virtual event that brought together over 1,000 women business leaders for International Women's Day, to talk about a question I hear in almost every engagement: Why does everything still come back to me?
