Last week, we partnered with The Mind Trust’s Indiana Charter School Fellowship and Emerging Leaders Fellows for the third year in a row. Their commitment to investing in leaders goes beyond instructional growth—it’s about ensuring leaders deeply understand the landscape in which they operate. Through The Ed.ucateD Approach, we facilitated two powerful sessions: 🔹 Session 1: Authorizing & Accountability We worked with fellows to unpack their charter operating agreements, state law, and authorizer performance frameworks. From day one, these documents shouldn’t just be compliance checklists—they should set the baseline goals to exceed so schools are built to thrive and positioned for renewal. 🔹 Session 2: Board Governance We focused on equipping leaders with strategies to engage their boards effectively—managing up, down, and across—to foster governance that truly supports school success. We asked fellows: How does your school define success? Does that align with your authorizer’s definition? Your board’s definition? Because here’s the reality: you’d never accept a job without reading the contract. Why would leading a school be any different? 💡 Investing in your full team’s understanding of the charter landscape is not optional—it’s essential. And when leaders are grounded in this knowledge, schools are set up not just to meet expectations, but to exceed them.

So interesting, and looking at these outcomes alongside other data - as many as 30% of classroom teachers drop research based materials by December it's not surprising. Materials and legislation alone won't change outcomes when we don't train teachers effectively, don't create systems that reinforce continuity between classroom and district priorities, and don't implement instructional assessments that drive coherence between curriculum and instruction.
