If you’re a US startup hiring mobile this quarter: screen for release ownership, not Flutter trivia. Senior candidates don’t separate “engineering” from “shipping.” They own releases, hotfixes, and the messy production stuff that actually matters. One question that works: “Tell me about a release that went sideways. What broke, how did you diagnose it, and what did you change so it wouldn’t happen again?” The answer tells you if they’ve actually owned production when it broke.

Coding agents are like toddlers with chainsaws. Not my words. These are from a recent interview by Steve Yegge. The dopamine highs from vibe coding are matched by the insane lows that come with an over-eager amp or claude code agent nuking critical server files or refusing to do things that it was crushing the day before. Coding agents are massive productivity boosters. But if you get greedy and turn off your guardrails—like periodically checking files into git at every major milestone/task —they will bite you in the behind. On a recent project, I lost four hours because claude code, which had perfected an Excel parser to handle a super long, super complex excel file, decided to keep the parser and the server files in the test directory. When it came time to deploy the app to production, the agent decided to cleanup the test directory and nuke the main files along with it. My desperate efforts to retrieve the source from a memory dump were a failure. The next day, amp, which is expensive ($$$), fantastic and less interrupty (not a real word 😊) decided to forget everything in spite of ALL KNOWLEDGE and learnings persisted in markdown files with apprpriate structure. amp kept taking me on the same roller coaster of errors again and again. The point here is that orchestrating and controlling AI agents requires regular checkpointing, strong task instruction, and effective prompting with a bit of a Vegas gambler mindset. Even after doing all that, you will #fail, and that is okay because the dopamine high will come again when the next terminal session starts!! #keepvibing

Everyone so busy talking about AI that the react component leaks aren’t getting enough visibility. We are all guilty of loving react and moving off angular, vue, etc. in favor of easier front end development. Recently react server exploits have led to unsafe environments, you’re probably worse off if you been using genAI like v0 or others and trying to do server functions. Basically it boils down to a dos which isn’t as terrible as the source leaking that’s happening. Upgrade if you’re using next, and if you been using genAI for a react app, ensure there isn’t react-server-x.

PSA you can call Claude Code from your Claude Code (this is different than using subagents and don't do it unless you have a reason lol) My reason is testing and developing Claude Code plugins. What is a plugin? They were just released last week, and are basically way to package up all the different ways there are to customize Claude Code for your given need. In a plugin you can define: - agents: Prompts that can be used in the main claude code agent, or in subagents - commands: slash commands that you can use in the chat to spawn a specific prompt, run a terminal script, etc. - hooks: these are like commands, but run automatically when something specific happens (so when claude finishes a response, run a command) - MCP servers: tools for claude to talk to outside context All together these subcomponents can completely change the behavior of your Claude Code instance. And with the plugin marketplace you can share these around both publicly for anyone to grab and privately for your team to align on how to work together on a given project. I don't care if you use Claude Code, Codex or no agent at all, understanding how agents work generally and can be configured for your given use case is a dramatic leverage point, since these patterns will move from CLI tools like Claude Code to your current tool stack extremely quickly. For example, I've design a claude code agent stack that executes an end to end GTM research process going from just a single URL to identifying ICPS, figuring the best place to create TAM datasets, all the way through to designing message market fit testing hypotheses. These are of course not as good as doing it manually, but that is not the point, the point is augmenting my ability to iterate, and the 80% good enough foundation it creates for any given company it researches certainly does that. I think I'll turn this agent stack into a plugin, but for now if you want access to the agent prompts leave a comment and I'll dm it to you :)
