I recently had the opportunity to speak on “The New Frontier – AI and What the 2026 Science Curriculum Should Be.” The conversation focused on a critical question for our education system in Nigeria: How do we prepare the next generation of scientists for an AI-driven world? Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming how science is conducted — from bioinformatics and genomics to disease surveillance, data analysis, and laboratory automation. If we want Nigerian students to compete globally, AI literacy must become part of science education. In the discussion, I emphasized that the future science curriculum should provide the foundations and teach the basics that can prepare to introduce students to: • AI-assisted data analysis • Computational thinking in biology • Bioinformatics and genomics tools • Data-driven scientific research At DNA Learning Centre Nigeria, we are already working to support this vision. Through our training programs, workshops, and laboratory experiences, we are helping students and educators gain exposure to modern biotechnology, genomics, and emerging AI-powered scientific tools. Our goal is simple: equip young scientists in Nigeria with the skills required for the future of science. The conversation around AI in science education is only beginning, and collaboration between educators, institutions, and policymakers will be key. I recently came across ICT textbooks being used by Primary 4 and JSS 3 students in Lagos state, and in 2026, children are being taught Windows 8 and FORTRAN programming. Now, these are some of the current instructional content shaping the technological foundation of the next generation. And then we wonder why Nigeria largely imports technology. Students may earn A’s and graduate with First Class degrees. But if the underlying knowledge architecture is obsolete, we are producing high-performing graduates trained for yesterday’s world. And that’s the real tragedy. We are in the 5G era, yet how many tertiary institutions in Nigeria have a structured 5G curriculum embedded within their telecommunications or electrical engineering departments? If the academy is not aligned with the industry frontier, the skill gap becomes inevitable. The consequence is that every year, we churn out hundreds of thousands of graduates who are unemployable and have limited skills; hence, businesses continue to rely on foreign expertise, as indigenous IT product development and local manufacturing of advanced technology remain minimal. This is not a talent problem because Nigerians are smart; it’s a curriculum challenge. Countries like China and India did not stumble into technological competence; they aligned education policy, industrial policy and national technology strategy. We must do the same. We must rebuild the education stack: primary and secondary curricula must align with current realities; tertiary programs must be co-designed with industry experts. There must be continuous curriculum refresh cycles and policy coordination between the government and regulators to drive enforcement. Leaders in the education ecosystem across federal, state, and local governments must drive policies that prepare Nigerian children for the future, not the past. If we do not modernize what we teach, we cannot build anything relevant today or tomorrow. And if we cannot build, we will continue to consume what others are building. Let's get allergic to consuming everything; let's start building!

Proud and happy to announce that my proposal, "Dynamic Digital Privacy in the Age of AI," has been accepted for an in-person presentation at the IEEE Symposium on Privacy Expectations (ISoPE) 2025 in New York! The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world's largest technical professional organization and ISOPE "a premier event dedicated to advancing the discourse on digital privacy in an increasingly interconnected world. Building on the success of the 2024 Digital Privacy Workshop held at Carnegie Mellon University, ISoPE 2025 will bring together leading practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the evolving landscape of privacy expectations, solutions, and the implications for technology and society." 🌐 More about ISoPE: https://ieee-isope.org 🌐 The ISoPE 2025 Program: https://lnkd.in/dRniJfq6 What my research is about... AI and frontier technologies are evolving at lightning speed, but the privacy rules designed to govern them move at a snail's pace: there is a "temporal mismatch" leaves us vulnerable to new threats, because privacy and governance come when games are done, if we are lucky... My study tries to spot this critical gap with a new approach, a Dynamic Digital Privacy (DDP) where instead of treating privacy frameworks as static documents that quickly become outdated, DDP looks at them as living, adaptive systems. Challenges? I believe that the greatest ones are avoiding the trap of techno-solutionism. Privacy involves subjective human experiences, cultural contexts but also ethical ambiguities that cannot be reduced to deterministic code. My purpose isn't to propose the classic magic bullet or a "definitive solution" but a space for us to reflect together on how and why we must protect our fundamental rights to privacy.
