The data is from a fluvial system in Western Canada and has 2 km spacing between data points. This note presents graphical support for the use of a simple calculation technique to organize information from the subject 2X2 datasets. The calculation uses the average of the intermediate scaled values in datasets that are organized in a diagonal manner. This technique shows significant progress towards a final algorithm.

Great couple of weeks for the lab, and for Andrew Bender, PhD in particular! Two of Andrew's papers diving deep into the meaning of neural alpha oscillations are now published. The first, out in PNAS, is "Differential representations of spatial location by aperiodic and alpha oscillatory activity in working memory" [1]. There's been a ton of super cool work in the last decade or so showing that the amplitude and distribution of visual cortical alpha rhythms encode the contents and spatial location of information held in working memory. Our lab has shown that our ability measure neural oscillations is confounded by non-oscillatory aperiodic activity, so we were curious how much of this encoding is *really* oscillatory. Analyzing seven different EEG datasets from Ed Awh and Ed Vogel's labs, we found that, after correcting for aperiodic activity, alpha encoding actually *improved*! And that time-resolved aperiodic activity seemed more to encode the stimulus while it was on the screen. We're now looking much more deeply into this idea that sensory information that often comes into our brains is aperiodic, and encoded that way, but then somehow transforms into an oscillatory neural code for maintenance. The second paper, in the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, is "Resting-state Alpha and Mu Rhythms Change Shape across Development But Lack Diagnostic Sensitivity for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism" [2]. LinkedIn's word limits keep me from being able to dive too deeply into this one but WOW did Andrew and Natalie Schaworonkow do an incredible amount of beautiful, technically sophisticated work. They analyzed EEG data from thousands of children, classified alpha band activity either as visual cortical alpha or sensorimotor mu based on their spatial topography, and then quantified the fine-scale waveform features of both. Our paper "RadarTD: A Radar Text Dataset for multi-parameter optimization" This paper introduces the radar text dataset (RadarTD) for technical language modeling. This dataset is comprised of sentences containing radar parameters, values, and units determined from published radar literature. Additionally, each statement is assigned a sentiment, goal priority, and goal direction label. In this work, we show how RadarTD may be used to train simple Natural Language Processing (NLP) models to identify the attributes of each sentence listed in RadarTD. Once the NLP models have identified these attributes from text, we can use this information to develop Language Based Cost Functions (LBCF). Our findings suggest that the developed models are capable of achieving good performance for both text classification and named entity recognition for autonomous radar applications. More application of satellite radar toward understanding structurally controlled geothermal permeability (and volcanic and magmatic fluids). Comparing vertical displacement to mapped faults and active volcanic rifts in Iceland. The timeframe was selected to be ~snow free months and a recent year with more reported earthquake activity. First, geothermal plants (gold stars) and known geothermal areas (green diamonds) are compared to heat flow. The second panel zooms into SW Iceland and shows vertical displacement (meters), faults, power plants, and known geothermal areas. The third and fourth panels zoom into the faults of a rift zone without reported geothermal systems, comparing vertical displacement and differential vertical displacement across faults. On the left, higher displacements occur on the margins and tips of the rift zone, areas where fractures may be continuing to develop and potentially forming pathways for geothermal fluids. On the right, more differential displacement (red) across segments to the ENE are only a few kilometers from the Hellisheidi power plant. This is very much a simple set of maps versus an in-depth assessment: an example of what is possible for better characterization of structurally controlled permeability across diverse geologic settings and geographies whether the focus is conventional hydrothermal, EGS, or AGS. Though there is variability, nearby stress datapoints indicate SHmax ~parallel to the faults. Though partly related to topography, it is interesting to see transform-fault patterns in the displacement data. The geothermal industry needs to more fully engage with unraveling structural controls on permeability. The data and tools are available to do this more robustly than done in the past!
