The Detroit finance and accounting hiring market has entered a faster cycle than we saw this time last year. Controller, FP&A, and Senior Accountant searches are moving quickly, and top candidates are staying in active process for only 10 to 14 days before making decisions. Companies that define role scope clearly and move with urgency are securing stronger talent, while slower processes are losing candidates to competing offers. Detroit automotive is in a “prove it” year. Not because the industry is shrinking, but because the rules are changing at the same time: Electrification plans are getting re-scoped and re-sequenced Cost pressure and program risk are forcing sharper commercial decisions The talent market is splitting into two lanes: legacy execution and next-gen capability (electronics, software, automation, EV systems) If you’re a Tier 1 or Tier 2 leader in Michigan, the question isn’t “Are we investing?” It’s “Are we building the team that can win the next 24 months?” The hiring pattern I’m watching most closely: Strong demand for customer-facing leaders who can protect margin, manage OEM complexity, and translate technical value into commercial outcomes Less patience for “relationship-only” sales profiles without numbers, program wins, and cross-functional leadership

Trump’s Positive Outlook for Michigan Automotive The recent comments from President-elect Trump about strengthening the U.S. automotive sector are already creating a sense of optimism across Michigan manufacturing. A renewed focus on domestic production, supply-chain investment, and incentives for U.S.-based operations could mean more stability, more expansion, and ultimately more jobs for Michigan’s automotive and Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers. For those of us working in manufacturing and direct-hire recruiting, this outlook is encouraging. Companies are talking about growth again, talent needs are increasing, and skilled trades, maintenance, quality, and engineering roles continue to trend upward. Michigan has always been the backbone of American manufacturing. With the right support and investment, 2025–2026 could be very strong years for our automotive and industrial workforce.
