Yesterday, IBM dropped their new WebMethods Hybrid Integration, which brings some cool upgrades around unified API management and orchestration—now with AI to help out. This comes right in line with Gartner's prediction that API demand will jump by about 30% by 2026, mostly thanks to AI and tools using large language models (LLMs). It’s exciting to see how AI is really changing the way we use APIs and making them even more important moving forward.

From ShadowTraffic, into MySQL, into Kafka using Source Connector (& a SMT), filtered, packaged & sinked into REDIS using Kafka Sink Connector (& another SMT) Overview 1. We start by first generating records using Shadowtraffic. 2. Insert the records created into a MySQL datastore. 3. We then utilise Kafka Connect Source Connector with a custom SMT to consume the records from our MySQL datastore, filtering out specific records, after adding a custom Message Key (not based on a column) as we publish onto specified Apache Kafka topic. 4. From here we use a Kafka Connect Sink Connector, again with a custom SMT function to filter our records, package (specified columns) into a Key/Value JSON payload into a REDIS datastore. Up until recently, most of my research has focused on what AI is doing to software engineering as a discipline: how it changes the process of building software, what it does to our day‑to‑day experience as engineers, and how it shifts where we spend our time when we have an AI assistant sitting beside us in the IDE. But I'm just as intrigued by what it means for the *software itself*. The kinds of systems we can now build. The architectures we reach for. The new constraints we run into and the new classes of problems we have to solve when a non‑deterministic component sits in the middle of everything. Fake Promotion Promises: The Silent Morale Killer Few things demotivate a team faster than empty promises of promotions. When managers dangle a “next cycle,” “next quarter,” or “once the project is done” carrot without real intent or follow-through employees don’t just lose trust in leadership, they lose faith in the system. What it does to morale: -Creates cynicism and quiet quitting -Drives top performers away -Breeds a culture of skepticism where words mean nothing What to do instead: -Be transparent: If promotion budgets or timelines are uncertain, say so clearly. -Give clarity: Outline measurable goals and the realistic timeframe for advancement. -Offer interim growth: Titles aren’t the only motivator stretch assignments, visibility, and meaningful feedback go a long way. Follow through: A promise kept even a small one builds credibility that no “motivational talk” can replace. Promotions may be delayed, but honesty should never be. #clarity #transparency #growth
