When downloading usage reports from Recruiter such as Recruiter Usage and Job Analytics, the file is downloaded in CSV (comma-separated value) format. Recently, when opening the CSV files containing Japanese characters in Microsoft Excel, the Japanese characters are corrupted and don't display correctly.
CSV files can be opened as tables in spreadsheet programs such as OpenOffice, Google Docs, and Microsoft Excel.
Take a look at the sections below to troubleshoot the issue for Excel on a Windows PC or Mac.
To troubleshoot on Notepad:

Download the file from LinkedIn.

Open the applicable CSV file in the Notepad program, which comes standard with Windows OS. The file should display uncorrupted Japanese characters.

Overwrite the CSV file by clicking Save. The Encoding on the Save screen should display as ANSI.

Exit Notepad.

Open the overwritten file in Excel.
To troubleshoot on Excel:

Download the file from LinkedIn.
-
Open a new spreadsheet within Excel.

Select the Data tab.

Select From Text in the Get External Data menu

Select the applicable CSV file and click Import.

Confirm that "UTF-8" is selected from the File Origin dropdown in the Text Import Wizard menu.
- Note: The Preview window should show Japanese characters correctly displayed.

Click Next.

Within Delimiters, check the Comma box, and uncheck the Tab box, then click Next.

Click Finish.

Click Ok.
To troubleshoot on a Mac using the Text Edit program:

Download the file from LinkedIn.

Open the applicable CSV file in the Text Edit program. Select Duplicate from the dropdown menu.

In the Save menu, change Standard text encoding to Unicode (UTF-16).

Exit Text Edit.

In Excel, select Open File and open the saved file.

Check the Delimited box within the Text Wizard menu, and click Next.

Select Tab and Comma within Delimiters, then click Next.

Under Column Data format, select General.

Click Finish
