Review analytics in the Engagement tab as a Learning admin

Last updated: 3 months ago

As a Learning admin, you can access analytics in the Engagement tab for a high-level overview of how learners engage with LinkedIn Learning. You can sort the data using a custom date range, or choose from one of our pre-determined date ranges (last 1, 3, 6, and 12 calendar months).

Important to know

(a) Admin Reporting is able to provide the most recent, accurate learner engagement data for up to one year before the current date, as this data is open to essential amendments and changes. For any reporting data beyond the past year, please understand we cannot ensure the accuracy of these metrics based on events that may have occurred at the time, as this data is no longer amendable.

(b) Due to GDPR compliance requirements, we are unable to access information from other data sources that flow into reporting beyond one year. As a result, we are unable to make any informed amendments to historical engagement data beyond the past year.

To access analytics via the Engagement tab:

  1. From Learning Management, select Insights > Engagement.

  2. Review the Engagement dashboard to see the following:

Engagement highlights

The Engagement highlights includes an overview of engagement across all learners, including the percentage of learners logging in, average video views per viewer, and average hours per viewer.

  • Percentage of learners logging in: Indicates The number of learners that have logged in divided by total activated seats.
  • Average video views per viewer: Indicates the total number of video views divided by unique viewers who watched content.
  • Average hours per viewer: Indicates the total number of learning hours viewed divided by unique viewers who watched content.

Activity highlights

The Activity highlights include an overview of engagement across all learners, including learners logged in, hours viewed, learners viewing content, and average hours per viewer.

  • Learners logged in: Indicates the total number of unique users who logged into the organization’s LinkedIn Learning account.
  • Learners who viewed content: Indicates the total number of unique users who viewed content through your LinkedIn Learning license.
  • Total hours viewed: Indicates the time spent watching a video, which is aggregated across learners. Values refer to the time spent watching based on the video’s scrubber. For example, completing a 10-minute video at twice the speed (2x) in 5 minutes of real time will count as 10 minutes viewed.
  • Average hours per viewer: Indicates the total number of learning hours viewed divided by unique viewers who watched content.
    • When we count the total people viewed content, we count distinct viewers across the whole time range, i.e., if a user viewed content multiple times in the past 3 calendar months, it’ll count as 1.
    • When we calculate average time per viewer, we only count across the period you select. For example, a user viewed the video in the 1st week and 2nd week, the view count will be 2 (in contrast to 1 in total people-viewed content).
    • In average viewed hours we count only people-viewed videos.
  • Learner conversations with AI-powered features: Indicates the total number of times a learner conversation with AI coaching occurs. The conversation is a two-way interaction with one of the AI-powered coaching features like course companion.
  • AI-powered role play conversation: The total number of times a learner clicks Start on a role play scenario and begins the practice session. This includes admin-created and learner-created scenarios.
    • Scenario-level breakdown: The number of conversations by scenario and author for the selected criteria. This includes LinkedIn and admin-created scenarios only.

Learning content highlights

The Learning content highlights display aggregated values across all learners. This includes information about total courses and videos viewed, as well as how many of those were completed. This information can be displayed by day, week, or month.
  • Course views: Indicates the total number of LinkedIn Learning courses viewed.
  • Course completions: Indicates the total number of courses completed. A course is complete once all required videos in the course are marked as complete.
  • Video views: Indicates the total number of LinkedIn Learning videos viewed.
  • Video completions: Indicates the total number of videos completed. You need to watch 70% of the video for Learning to mark it "Complete".

Here's a tip
