Go live to your scheduled LinkedIn Live Event using a custom stream (RTMP)

Who can use this feature?

Creating and hosting LinkedIn Lives is only available to members who meet the access criteria. Trigger a review of your Page or Profile to check if you fulfill the criteria.

LinkedIn Live Video broadcasters who want to connect directly to any streaming software or encoder can use a custom stream (RTMP Ingest) to go live from their desktop browser by visiting the Live Studio. This enables advanced broadcasters and professional producers to use the tool of their choice (For example OBS, Elemental, Zoom, etc.) or their own production workflow for streaming. We support both RTMP and RTMPS. It’s important to follow the encoder settings outlined in LinkedIn Live Video encoder settings.

If you’re new to streaming or would like to use one of our partner software options, consider going live with a third-party broadcasting tool. You have the options to go live now, schedule a stream for later, or manage upcoming streams.

Important to know

The Stream URL and Stream Key for an event can be found on the Manage streams page of LinkedIn's Live Studio.

For verified Pages, Prepare to go live will become clickable two hours before the event's scheduled start time, when they can generate the Stream URL and Stream Key. They can be in Preview mode for up to two hours.

For Profiles and Pages that are not verified, Prepare to go live will become clickable one hour before the event's scheduled start time, when they can generate the Stream URL and Stream Key. The Preview mode is limited to 10 minutes.

Create a scheduled live event for a LinkedIn Page or profile

While you can create a scheduled live event in the Live Studio, we recommend creating a Live Event here.

Go live to your scheduled live event

  1. Go to Manage stream page in the Live Studio.

  2. Find your stream, and click Prepare to go live. This option is available one hour before your scheduled live event, or two hours for verified Pages.

  3. In the Stream settings tab, pick your region.

    • Not all regions have a dedicated source in the Region dropdown list. If you don’t see your region, you can still go live by selecting the region closest to you. Each region is allocated a certain bandwidth, and sometimes regions run out of available bandwidth. If this happens, try selecting another region close to you.
  4. Click Get URL. Copy the Stream URL and Stream Key and paste them into your streaming software. If you’re not sure where to paste them, visit your software’s help center to learn more.

  5. Start streaming in your streaming software, and you'll see a preview within the Live Studio. You can go live 15 minutes before your scheduled time, or up to two hours past the scheduled start time.

    • If you're testing this stream, don't click Go live as this will broadcast the event to your audience. If you can view the preview, the connection was successful, and you may end the session from your broadcasting tool without broadcasting on LinkedIn.
  6. Click Go live in the upper-right corner when you’re ready to live stream.

  7. Click End Stream when you're done.
