Member boosting, Page boosting, and thought leader ads allow advertisers to promote content on LinkedIn and are designed for different needs and stages of growth:

  • Member boosting - Helps individual members quickly increase visibility for a single post from their own LinkedIn profile.
  • Page boosting - Gives businesses and organizations the ability to increase their LinkedIn Page’s visibility, grow followers, or get more website clicks.
  • Thought leader ads - Helps individual members boost authentic content from real LinkedIn members with their permission.

Requirements to boost

You can boost your personal LinkedIn posts with a Premium Business Suite subscription.

We’re also gradually releasing this feature to members without a Premium Business subscription. If you have access to this feature, you can boost your posts from your Activity tab. Click Boost on the upper-right corner of eligible posts.

To boost a post from your Page, you must have super or content admin permissions.

To boost a post from Campaign Manager, you need super admin, content admin, or Sponsored Content poster access.

You must have super admin, content admin, or Sponsored Content Poster access on the LinkedIn Page associated with the ad account.

You must also request approval from the member whose post you’d like to sponsor.

Member boosting from your LinkedIn profile

Member boosting lets individual LinkedIn members promote one of their own posts to reach a wider audience. Member boosting is a good choice if you:

  • Want to increase reach on a single post quickly
  • Are promoting yourself, your expertise, or a small business
  • Prefer a simple, lightweight boosting experience
  • Don’t need advanced targeting or long-term campaign management

Keep in mind:

  • Member boosting is tied to the individual member, not a LinkedIn Page
  • It’s best for short-term or one-off promotion
  • Reporting and optimization options are more limited than Page boosting

Page boosting from a Company Page

Page boosting allows Page admins to promote posts published by a LinkedIn Page. Page boosting is a good fit if you:

  • Are promoting brand or company content
  • Manage a LinkedIn Page
  • Want more targeting and budget control
  • Plan to promote multiple posts or run ongoing promotions

Keep in mind:

  • Page boosting is managed by Page admins, so you’ll need the right permissions on the Page.
  • Boosted posts represent your brand or organization, not an individual member.
  • You’ll have more control than member boosting, but fewer options than full Campaign Manager campaigns.
  • Page boosting works best when you have clear goals, such as increasing awareness or engagement.
  • As your advertising needs grow, Page boosting makes it easier to transition into Campaign Manager without needing to start from the very beginning.

Thought leader ads

Thought leader ads help individual members boost authentic content from real LinkedIn members with their permission. Thought leader ads are a good fit if:

  • You want to boost authentic content from a real LinkedIn member, such as an employee, executive, or creator.
  • You want to amplify a strong organic post while still using advertiser tools like targeting, budget, and reporting in Campaign Manager.
  • You’re looking for a scalable way to boost member content beyond self‑serve member boosting.

Keep in mind:

  • Member permission is required before you can boost a post as a thought leader ad.
  • Not all organic posts are eligible for thought leader ads and must meet ad requirements.
  • Thought leader ads are managed by advertisers, while member boosting is done by individuals on their own posts.
