This Earth Day, we're recognizing the people, projects, and partnerships making real change possible through Amazon’s Right Now Climate Fund: a $100 million initiative founded on the conviction that action can’t wait. The fund focuses on: 🌱 Restoring and conserving biodiversity and nature. 🔬 Accelerating innovation in science and technology to strengthen nature restoration. 💵 Creating socioeconomic benefits such as jobs, education, and improved livelihoods, particularly for disadvantaged groups. 🧑🏫 Sparking long-term action by encouraging additional public and private investment, advancing policy learning, and empowering communities to lead local change. Since 2019, the fund has disbursed $67.4 million to finance 19 projects across 14 countries and contributed to the protection or restoration of over 49,000 hectares of land. Each project is developed and implemented in close collaboration with local and international organizations, combining on-the-ground knowledge with scientific expertise for real benefits—for nature and business. We're supporting women leading the charge on climate solutions. Women and girls face some of the greatest risks from climate change, and they're also behind many of the most long-term solutions around the world. Yet startups founded solely by women receive about 2% of venture capital funding. That's why Amazon is a founding partner of 2X Global's Resilient Futures Fund: an initiative that aims to increase opportunities for climate solutions led by, involving, or benefiting women and girls. Since its launch, the Resilient Futures Fund has awarded $7.9 million to grantees supporting women-led climate initiatives, strengthened 184 organizations, and helped create nearly 3,000 jobs, with more than half benefiting women. Last month, the fund named seven new Latin-American grantees: ⚙️ Amplifica Capital 🟢 Impacta - Emprendimiento sostenible 🦈 Fundación Mundo Azul 👩💻 Irrazonables 🪸 Mesoamerican Reef Fund - MAR Fund ♀ Positive Ventures 🌿 Regenera Ventures Fund by SVX MX Scaling climate solutions means supporting the people already driving change and providing them with the resources to go further. Only 3% of the world's water is fresh. And for farmers operating on razor-thin margins, every drop matters. That's why Amazon Web Services helped support and implement AI-watering technology to modernize irrigation practices, helping farmers in Spain like Miguel Angel Ferrer reduce water use with precision irrigation. Since its success in Spain, this solution has scaled all over the planet, from Brazil to Chile to the United States, helping farmers gain access to data-backed tools to monitor soil conditions, weather patterns, and water use, and adapt to drought and increasingly unpredictable climate conditions. As Earth Month begins, meet three Amazonians changing packaging, power, and products for a more sustainable planet. 🌎 🟢 Nneka Leiba, Amazon's Global Lead in Sustainable Selection Science, is making it easier for millions of customers to find more sustainable products by evaluating sustainability certifications that meet the standards of Amazon's Climate Pledge Friendly program. Her goal? A world where every product is made responsibly and sustainability doesn't need a label. 🟢 Brandon Oyer, PE, a former Navy engineer who oversaw and operated the nuclear reactors that provided power on submarines, now brings that same zero-defect, integrated systems thinking to Amazon Web Services (AWS) growing data center network, championing carbon-free energy sources like nuclear. 🟢 Kyrsten Elemino is designing tomorrow's packaging materials that could be biodegradable, recyclable, and could help bring plastic packaging into the circular economy. Growing up in the Philippines, Minnesota, and the Pacific Northwest gave her a deep appreciation for Earth's diverse climates and a drive to keep that biodiversity alive.
