At a plant where the three furnaces are named after women, it's no surprise that equality, representation and inclusion are high on the agenda ⚖️
For the fourth year running, Elkem Iceland has been recognised by the Balance Scale initiative (Jafnvægisvogin) for maintaining gender balance in the executive management team.
💬 "As a team, we believe that balance isn’t just a metric — it’s a mindset. It’s about creating a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to lead, contribute, and thrive," says plant manager Álfheiður Ágústsdóttir.
The Balance Scale, supported by the Association of Women Business Leaders in Iceland (FKA - Félag kvenna í atvinnulífinu), maintains a dashboard for statistical information on equality in a bid to reach at least a 40/60 gender ratio in companies' top management by 2027. However, it is about more than just numbers. It is a reminder that attaining gender balance is an active decision made by companies every day.
Thank you to Sigridur Borghildur Jonsdottir, Process Engineer & Team Leader of Filter & Microsilica, for accepting the award on behalf of the plant – and to every colleague who helps make diversity and equality part of our culture 🤝
