Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency - City and County of Denver reposted this
There’s a building in Denver that’s different from any other city facility. Our Parks and Recreation Northeast District HQ is the city’s first all-electric, net-zero energy building. It was designed from the ground up with sustainability in mind—geothermal heating and cooling, energy-efficient systems, solar readiness and EV infrastructure. This came together through strong collaboration between Denver Parks and Rec and our Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency - City and County of Denver. So, as much as this building is about Denver's commitment to climate action, it’s also about the city employees who are committed to working together, solving problems and finding smart ways to get results. Climate resiliency can’t be just an #EarthDay conversation. It has to be year-round action, and we're thankful for the teams doing the work.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 We’ve been partnering with the University of Denver for eight years now, and it was incredible to gather and celebrate how far we’ve come. DU is officially on track to hit carbon neutrality by 2030—that’s 20 years ahead of schedule! Between the solar on 18 campus buildings and our six new off-site projects, we are eliminating 100% of the university's electricity emissions. Huge thanks to everyone who spoke and shared their vision for a brighter Denver: Jeremy Haefner (Chancellor, University of Denver) Elizabeth Babcock (City and County of Denver, CASR) Tom Hunt (CEO, Pivot Energy) Lynn Bailey, P.E., C.E.M. (Director of Energy & Sustainability, DU) Kyle Sundman (VP of Development, Pivot Energy and a proud DU alum!)

This #EarthMonth—and every single day—each of us has a role to play in the boundless potential of our city and its surrounding ecosystems. And thanks to public support, Denver is on track to achieve major clean energy and emissions‑reduction goals that will strengthen and unite our communities. Clean energy 🤝 agriculture Happy Earth Week! We’re excited to spotlight our solar garden project at the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms. This five-acre agrivoltaics project co-mingles solar panels that generate electricity for the farm and its surrounding community with crops that grow beneath them, which are later donated to hunger relief organizations! Chatfield Farms and the National Laboratory of the Rockies will release results from the experiment, including the best crops to grow, water use, and the impact on soil health and biodiversity. A huge shoutout to all of our partners, as well as Denver’s Climate Protection Fund that help to make it all possible! Watch the clip (featuring one of our social media wizards Jessica Harrington) and visit the link in the comments to learn more about Denver's Climate Protection Fund.
