Great evaluations are not improvised. They are engineered. ATT&CK Evaluations is built on a disciplined adversary emulation methodology designed to make results realistic, repeatable, and meaningful. Multiple teams. One validated workflow. 1️⃣ Cyber Threat Intelligence identifies the adversary The process starts with structured analysis of public reporting, malware research, incident disclosures, and government advisories. The team selects high-impact financially motivated and nation-state adversaries that can apply to private and government sectors and maps every in-scope behavior to ATT&CK with cited intelligence sources. 2️⃣ Red Development turns intelligence into action Using that adversary profile, the team builds a complete intrusion scenario: custom malware development, command and control servers, representative tooling that recreates what happened in the real world cyber incident. 3️⃣ Detection Engineering defines what good detection looks like Before execution begins, the team establishes the scoring rubric for each technique: required data collection, observable behaviors, expected alert context, and false positive test cases. 4️⃣ Execution runs the live evaluation During each vendor’s assigned week, the Execution Team executes the adversary emulation and works directly with the vendor’s technical contacts in real time to coordinate, observe, and document results. And one thing matters across every phase: no step moves forward until the prior team’s outputs are validated. That means vendors are not entering a loosely defined test. They are joining an intelligence-driven evaluation built on documented procedures, explicit handoffs, and clear scoring criteria.
