Versions and features

There are multiple editions of Windows Server 2025, starting out with the standard edition, and this comes with two virtual machine licenses that you can also install using Hyper-V. It has most of the different features that you're going to need for most organizations. The next version is the data center version. The data center version has everything the standard version has, but also has some additional features, such as unlimited licenses for Hyper-V virtual machines. You can place as many virtual machines as you'd like on the data center version, and they're all going to be considered licensed versions. Next, we have the Azure Edition of Datacenter. This particular version will upgrade from server 2022 to 2025 through Windows updates instead of a full upgrade installation. So you don't have to get an ISO or a DVD of the Datacenter: Azure Edition. It will just automatically upgrade as needed.
