- [Instructor] Before we move on to running our own Nmap scans, let's take a moment to perform a couple of tests to verify that we have Nmap running properly. You'll need to begin at the command line of whatever operating system you're using. From this point forward, I'm going to use the version of Nmap that I installed on my Mac, but that won't matter to you. The syntax for using Nmap is exactly the same on every operating system. The very first thing I'm going to do is just repeat the version check that we did at the end of the installation process. You can call Nmap with the minus capital V flag to verify your version number. And I see here that I'm running Nmap 7.91. More importantly, I know from performing this simple check that the Nmap binary is built and functioning properly. Now, the second thing we're going to do is run a basic Nmap scan against a test system. And don't worry yet about what we're doing here.…
