What are secure coding, CERT and other standards?
In this one, we're going to talk about what secure coding is. Now, in many companies, there's a person such as a chief information security officer, whose job it is to keep the company's information and software as safe as possible. This person can oversee the configuration of components such as firewalls. They can make sure the organization uses secure passwords. They can also consult engineering teams to make sure they do their best to keep things secure. Although information security may be a person's job, it's also everyone's job, and that's where secure coding comes in. Secure coding as a practice assumes that it's everybody's job to keep our software secure. We must design, implement, and maintain software with security in mind. This, in turn, means that in order to produce robust software, secure coding must be undertaken by software developers.
