- Getting resources with exactly the right skills rarely happens. So the likelihood is that you'll need to assess and address some skills gaps in your team and yourself. When conducting a skills assessment, be careful to avoid having only one person with specific skills that are essential to the project. This situation can introduce a significant risk to the project if that results were to be lost. Mitigate this risk by building a team with shared knowledge, skills, and experience. There are a number of key skills which should form the basis of your skills assessment. The first is project management skills. It's important that each member of the team understand how to effectively estimate, schedule, and plan for the project.
