- Analytics has moved to the cloud, several reports estimated adoption rates over 90%. So what are the implications for predictive analytics? First, preparation of data for analytics has grown more complex, and of course that's given birth to the data engineer. As we discussed earlier in the course, it's become its own career path and while data engineers typically work in IT, they're expected to be quite well versed in predictive analytics in order to support downstream activities like the kinds of projects we're discussing in this course. Second, data prep within the project itself has not gone away. We'll talk more about why this is so in the next video, but it's why the concept of the data lake has become popular. Data Lakes store the data in raw form as is often unstructured. More often than not, it's the data scientists performing the kinds of projects we've been discussing that utilize this data lake data.
