Everything you tell Codex to do starts with a prompt, but not all prompts are equal. A vague prompt like, build a page for sharing my links, gives Codex room to make dozens of decisions on your behalf. It'll pick a layout, add styling, create features you didn't ask for. The result might look impressive, but you didn't control any of it. When you need to change something or fix a bug, you're working with code you don't understand. The key to getting good results from Codex is writing prompts that describe a clear, focused task, one specific piece of work with defined boundaries. A well-written prompt tells Codex exactly what to build, what behavior to implement, and where to stop. You describe the outcome and Codex writes the code. It's important to break complex work into smaller focused steps. Smaller steps are easier for Codex to get right and easier for you to review. Think of each prompt as one clear job.
