- [Instructor] There are phases to any project and migrating data is no different. Microsoft recommends four phases when migrating any data or program to Azure, but I've added a fifth one as well. Let's start with discover. Starting with discover, you need to discover what you have so that way you know the best way to migrate your data. Is it structured or unstructured? Catalog all your data and workloads for the best results. A workload can be something like a virtual machine being migrated or an application. Next, we need to assess. Categorize your data and workloads so you can decide the migration strategy. Some workloads can only be moved in certain ways while others have multiple options. An example of this would be moving data that has five different options, but based on the type of data you may decide to use different options for each category.
