Test live migration - Hyper-V Tutorial
From the course: Migrating from VMware to Hyper-V
Test live migration
- [Instructor] Now that our failover cluster is up and running, we need to test her ability to perform a live migration. A live migration is Microsoft's equivalent to VMware's vMotion. In other words, it allows us to move a running virtual machine from one Hyper-V host to another without having to take that virtual machine offline. Now, if you think back to earlier in the course, you'll recall that there was a video in which I explained the various tools that are available for managing Hyper-V virtual machines. And you'll recall that there were no less than five management tools. And one of the points that I want to make throughout this course is that it's important to know which management tool to use in a given situation. So I want to show you an example of that as we explore live migration. So as you can see, I'm currently in the Hyper-V Manager and I'm looking at the host Hyper-V one. And I have two different virtual machines that are on screen right now. Now, normally the way…
