Explore the demo project
- [Instructor] So you're probably anxious to get into a Forma project, and see what is possible. And one really easy way that you can do that is to use a demo project. So there's a couple different ways to do that. On this home screen, when you first set up your account, you're going to have the go to demo project button right here, and then down here under Learn, actually either of these two first items here would also do the same thing. So open the demo project or take a tour would also bring you into the demo project. So I'm going to click the go to demo project in one of those locations, and it's going to say preparing the demo, and it's going to kind of copy it over to my hub and do whatever behind the scenes work it needs to do. And then that's going to open that demo project in Autodesk Forma. And of course the screen is going to change a little bit to reflect the fact that we're now inside a project instead of inside of our hub. So once the demo project loads, you'll see this welcome message here, and it's kind of like this little slideshow. You can see this one of seven, and it's telling you that this is a playground for Autodesk Forma. And don't worry about breaking anything. That's kind of the whole point of a demo project. Okay. So we can easily reset it. So I'm going to click next here, and it's going to say we've got a pre-made model, and you can kind of see that in the background. And we're going to you know, play around with it, and explore the daylight analysis. So I'm going to click next to here, and then you're going to see that it takes me to this panel over here on the side, and there's this analysis button, daylight potential. So I'm going to click that button, and then that's going to go to step four, which is going to say we can run the analysis. Now it turns out that it's grayed out at the moment. It's not letting me click run analysis, and that's because down here, there's this geometry alert that needs to be reviewed before I can continue. So unfortunately that means I'm going to need to click the X here to close out of the tutorial first. Then I can click review, and then I'm going to click this remove button here to remove the offending object. And then notice that the run analysis now becomes available. So I can go ahead and click on that, and it will run that tool that we were trying to run a moment ago. So that's a slight issue with the self-running demo, but otherwise it should work just fine. So when it's done, you should see a message right here that says the daylighting potential analysis is completed, and you can click on this link here to view the results, and then that will open it up in this window. It will show you a bar down the bottom here that shows you the different daylighting potential. You're going to see some colors on the building model here, and there's a little inspect tool right here that we can click on. And this would allow you to click on different areas of the model to kind of see what their score is. Now, I'm holding down the right button, and dragging to orbit around to the other side. That right-hand side of the building was okay, but this side here, you can see there's much darker colors, and much less daylighting potential in those areas, and that's really the point of this analysis is it's allowing you to identify parts of the building that have better potential to daylight than others. So when you're done exploring the analysis results, you can click the small X right here to close that analysis, and return to the model. And so at this point, you could continue working in this demo project, and performing really whatever other tasks you like. And so I'm not really going to go through much more here other than to say, feel free to explore in here. The nice thing about a demo project is, you can do whatever you want without really worrying too much about breaking anything or hurting anything because this isn't a real project. So I'm going to roll my wheel here, and that's going to allow me to change the level of zoom. If you hold the wheel down and drag, you can kind of pan around. And so you can really start to just take a look in here, click on different objects, see what properties they have, try some of the different analyses. Now don't worry, we're going to go through all of this here in the course, in the videos that follow, but if you're just anxious to get a leg up and get started right away, I think this demo project is an excellent way to do that.
