- [Instructor] The word patient comes from the Latin, patientem originally, meaning bearing, suffering, or enduring. It was later interpreted as awaiting or expecting an outcome calmly and without discontent. I like these definitions because anytime I need to visit a healthcare provider, I expect to have the best medical attention in the least amount of time. So how might 5S help support this need? Let's have a look at each of the five elements, sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain, in a healthcare environment.
